Where in the World Isn't Bob Saget?

When you're the leader, you don't have to follow.
I stopped at Crappy Tire today to buy all new lights for my Christmas tree. I've had the pink/green/blue mix for three years. It's time for traditional white again.

Even better, I noticed that plum is in the year, so I should have a plethora of new decorations from which to choose.

It's probably a good bet that my tree will be up by the end of the week.

We get a live tree every year. It's too early to put one of those up (plus they aren't selling them yet.)

We have you beat. Our tree went up on Saturday, along with all the other Christmas decorations. And our tree has the ability to switch between colored and white lights.

My outside lights have been up for more than a week. You know my motto - if they're up, they're on.

Well, thank goodness I'm not the only person around here who doesn't put up a tree until maybe the 2nd week of December. We always get a "live" one, too. I love the smell. :inlove:

Live tree for us too. DH had never had a live tree before we got married - now he won't have anything but a live tree. When the kids were growing up we always took them to a friend's farm during Columbus Day weekend to tag a tree, then in December we'd go back, cut it down, and take it home to decorate. Good times!

So he always had one of those metallic silver tress with the color wheel light?

Actually his best friend's family had one. His family had a buttugly green fake tree whose branches were like bottle brushes.
Oh I forgot about those. One of my grandmothers had one of those and the limbs were colored coded at the ends as to the limb length.

She was quite frugal, so it must have about killed her to have to spend that much money on something like that.

Flashback: Picture it... 1963. Both my grandmothers passed away within 4 months of each other. Immediately followed by my Dad losing his job. Dad is given a good job offer, but, in another state (end of August). Found a rental and moved quickly because both myself and my sister had to start school. So brand new school, no friends within 75 miles. My sister and my mother were lost souls. Wandered around like zombies. November 22nd, in the middle of Sophomore English class the PA comes on telling us that President Kennedy has been shot and killed in Dallas. A few days later Thanksgiving was upon us. One of my Fathers co-managers and his family was over for dinner and we all got to watch a live killing of Lee Oswald on the TV. The one high point was that I got my driving permit so I was driving the store to get a Christmas tree when an old guy snow slid into the back of the car at a stop sign. Managed to pick up the tree that was on sale at a big retail chain store that is no longer in existence. It was an aluminum tree with the color wheel. I can remember sitting in a chair staring at it, still in a major case of shock over the entire year and thinking this is as bazaar a year as is possible. This year has beat it and it isn't even done yet.

At least we had Uncle Walter Cronkite telling us with is soothing, honest voice that all would be OK. He never really said it, but, his manner made you feel like he had it under control. And BTW, Bob Saget was 6 years old and at home with his mommy at the time. Don't know were he is now.

Yes, assmbling the tree was always an ordeal. Then you had to bend the limbs to fill it all in. The ornaments never really hung from the branches right either. Funny you mention frugal - his parents were cheaper than cheap. I imagine they bought that tree after Christmas at a substantial discount. His mother loved that tree though, so I guess that's all that matters.

I really wanted to like this post, but then you manage to get a political swipe in and somehow make it into a worse scenario than the loss of your grandmothers and father losing his job.
