I can just hear Justin Wilson... "gawn pekawn"And that map leaves out a pronunciation. Growing up in southern Louisiana I always heard it pronounced puh-kawn. That pronunciation gives us that great Louisiana expression, "gone pecan." It wouldn't make sense though without pronouncing pecan so that it rhymes with gone.

I have no idea how well known Justin Wilson is outside of Louisiana, but a lot of PBS stations in Louisiana still play his cooking show.
