I've stayed there a few times since it opened, years ago. I'd always choose Arusha Savannah for my view from the guest room. (Note: I see that they're charging more now for Arusha . . . unreal.) I loved watching the animals from my balcony. You mentioned the gift shop being small, but actually it's a fairly decent size, or at least is now (I stopped by there on my trip in May). They have some very nice African-themed merchandise, and it's one of the better shops on property, I think. Your comment about the pool raised my curiosity: I think what's happening there is that there are also guests from the AK DVC complex (which is large) that also come over. I think they have their own pool as well, but can use both. Regardless, that pool was the first one at WDW to have zero entry. I really liked that pool. There's also a heath club near the pool as well. The last time I stayed at AKL, was just prior to them building that DVC complex. I haven't stayed there since, as I thought it just took away from the ambiance of the area, but that's just my opinion only. i also know they converted some of the upper level floors in the lodge to DVC; I think they also still have some club rooms as well up there.
Anyway,
@Cesar R M will have a great time at AKL. I truly think the main lodge's lobby is gorgeous and the theming throughout is lovely. I liked their quick service restaurant (interesting food selections for a QS, along with the traditional fare). I think it's called The Mara. As for the bus service, I found it adequate, and like you mentioned, it is a covered area in case it rains.
