Oh god, about 2 or 3 years ago there was a snow storm the day after Christmas. It took the plows 3 days to clear my street without getting stuck. My mom's street wasn't done until New Years Eve. We both live in busy suburban neighborhoods, not the middle of nowhere. Her neighbors were expecting a baby so they spent a day digging a path down to the street they actually plowed, but it was so crude only 4WD could get down it.

And that is why the next fall I got a Jeep.

We had this last year...3 feet of snow and not one road in the county was plowed because they decided to wait until it was over, instead of plowing through the storm, to try to save money. They ended up needing payloaders to remove the snow and it took 3 days until most could leave their houses.

We always have at least one 4WD-capable vehicle. Sometimes I see neighbors spend hours shoveling out their cars, and for me it's just a few minutes if it's needed at all.

But we can't seem to solve a simpler problem. No matter how many ice scrapers we buy I can't ever find one when I need it.
I have no idea where all our ice scrapers went. I'm pretty sure at one point my dad had 4 in his car, when his is one that sits in the garage.

That was the Nemo storm, right? ;)

Sounds like Meg was running the show.

That one I manged to get through without screaming at my town to get their $#%@ together. The post Christmas one was frustrating because they plowed a block from me the day after, then we never saw another plow for several days.

Their priority was making a path to the bar on that corner. They literally stopped right there and turned around, not to be seen again for days...

There's a huge area of empty lots around the corner from us that used to have houses, but were taken by the airport expansion corporation. The whole area now has several ballfields that get used a lot during the summer months. Whenever it snows the streets there are plowed immediately, while the streets where people actually live are done whenever they feel like it.

My husband used to have a collection of cracked CD cases on the floor of his car from using them as ice scrapers.
I can sympathize. Back when I was in high school my dad would take me to work. He would use cassette cases to scrape a spot on the windshield about the size of a dollar bill and away we went. That's when I kept a firm grip on the "oh sh*t" bar in the truck.

Where I live theoretically you can get fined for not shoveling the snow from your sidewalk within 24 hours. But if it's a deep enough snow the plows may shove it all right back up on the sidewalks as soon as you're done.

same here - you're responsible for the sidewalks in front of your property. However, we have no sidewalks on our street, so they just plow the snow back into our driveways.

They will pull you over here for that. Your windshield has to be totally clean.

My guess is they ducked inside that bar!
