You couldn't pay me enough to go shopping on Black Friday!!!
Especially now that Black Friday starts at 6pm on Thanksgiving. Whoever came up with that should be the one dealing with the crazed shoppers who are willing to trample others over a TV.

It's half-day Friday but I'm not off 'til 1p. Will post a little more later about how I ended up in retail in the first place... 'Cause I'm SURE the suspense is killin' y'all. ;)

Well, state was fun, but we lost. 28-14. Our "star" runningback had a foot injury and didn't play on offense at all. Our running game got us like 45 yards, and we threw like 4 INTs trying to catch up from behind. There were a couple of amazing plays, though, including an amazing one-handed catch. The other team simply outplayed us. A neat experience, though.

Stopped at Walmart on the way to work to get Call of Duty: Ghosts for my husband. They are having a "pre" Black Friday sale. Of course, the game was only on sale if you bought it for xbox one or PS4. I need regular xbox - although my husband is campaigning for the new one.
They released so many new games the past few months for the old that I can't justify buying the new generation consoles.

Plus waiting means they will hopefully fix the PS4 bugs and Xbone will not make Kinect mandatory.

Now you will experience the amazing and exclusive version of Black Friday; where the shoppers will hit each other with turkey legs.

It's a pretty warm day here, so I went for a long walk at lunch to buy a book the old-fashioned way at a bricks-and-morter Barnes and Noble a few blocks past the White House.

The National Christmas Tree is still a work in progress. The official lighting is Dec. 6.

I still really appreciate a regular ol' book myself. I have a bit of a Disney-related collection.

it was 81 here yesterday. Right now it's 35.

Its 57 degrees here and there is actually a little bit of sun for the 1st time in several weeks. So of course I am celebrating by sitting in the back of a Starbucks trying to finish my work while the office gets the internet fixed.

OK, since the anticipation has obviously been killin' y'all, I'l try and make the retail story as short and painless as possible by only hittin' the "high" points...
I was in architecture for almost 29 years. I was layed off from the firm I had worked for for over 20 years in Jan. of '09. The first job I applied for was The Disney Store. Worked there for over 4 years, 1+ as a Lead Mgr.
I worked as many as 3 jobs at a time. Disney Store, Batteries Plus, Calendar Club, Kay Jewelers, a mens clothing store. One Black Friday a coupla' years ago I worked 18 hrs. and 45 mins. with only a 15 min. break between jobs at the mall. I never left my feet except for 5 mins. to throw down a sandwich. While I was a Mgr. at TDS I was finally contacted to do contract work for my old firm. I did that for 10 months and when things finally picked up enough they hired me full-time back at the office last February. Thank you Lord - deliverance from retail Hell!
When things go in the dumper again, at least I now have that experience on my resume' to fall back on if ABSOLUTELY need be. But, as God is my witness, I will do EVERYTHING I POSSIBLY can to stay out of retail in the future.
Of course, there were many Magical moments at the Disney Store. But, it was retail and NO amount of Magic can cover up that fact. Some of the craziest stuff I ever experienced in retail also went on there as well.
More than once I've thought about writing a book about it. Maybe someday, but not now. I may want to seek employment again with them someday when DW and myself "retire".....

In my years working restaurants we always had people waiting for us to open to get coffee and a bite to eat because they had either a.) been out since midnight or b.) just heading out for the day.

That was another thing about workin' at the Disney Store. Guests would come in after Christmas lookin' for all our post holiday sales and be disappointed that we really didn't have any. I'd always have to tell them to remember for next year that most of our really good sales are actually goin' on during the holidays.
