So my own stupidity and laziness cost me $50 today. I am overdue on my NYS Inspection on my car and got a ticket this morning in the BJs parking lot. It's annoying because it expired in September, so I am only 11 days late. I saw at least 10 other cars in the lot with tickeys on their windshield as well.

We have e-check that you are required to get every other year but it's free. I live right down the road from the station. Honestly it's the size of a Jiffy Lube. Drive in, they record numbers from your car, drive on some rollers for three minutes, get your printout and leave. Five minutes tops but don't go with any error lights showing. We did this last year and were denied. Realized that evening the gas cap just wasn't on right.

They're strict here on up to date registration - they can not only fine you but tow your car away - but flexible on the deadlines for inspection. They reject you automatically for any error lights or a missing gas cap. Once you know that, and the weird hours they're open, it's usually pretty convenient and quick.

It's a high income, high education county but with lots of federal government workers who don't seem to mind the public sector running everything and raising taxes and fees all the time.

Our liquor stores are in our Giant Eagles but there are drive-thru galore.

We have strip malls every mile or so (5 - 6 stores in a row - not to be confused with establishments that attract an unsavory element) and they basically each have a nail salon, a pizza place, a chinese take-out restaurant (or more recently a burrito bar) and a liquor store. And in between each of them is a 7-11. We have - no joke - 5 real and 1 fake 7-11's within 2 miles of my house.
