Three things you will not find in Vermont...Cracker Barrel, Perkins and Golden Corral. Oh, yea, two more. No Chick fil A or Sonic. That's just the start. If I had the time to think or desire to think about it there are probably more that Vermont doesn't have then does. Heck, you can hardly find a Wendy's and that aughta be criminal.

North Carolina, by contrast, has every chain restaurant known to man. Just thought of another one...no Bob Evans in Vt. either.

We have one Sonic and one DQ - and the lines are around the corner. C'mom people - put it in perspective - it's still SONIC and DQ - no need to line up like it's 1986 and Bon Jovi tickets are going on sale at 8AM.

But they have Ben & Jerry's.
Vermont is Ben & Jerry's...we invented it. I remember going to the Original Ben & Jerry's store in downtown Burlington. An old converted gas station on the corner of St. Paul Street and College Street. Both Ben and Jerry manned the counter.

That location is now a parking lot. To their credit they at least put a plaque on the ground acknowledging that location. When I was driving buses in Burlington we had a route that brought tourist from the lake front (Champlain) to downtown and I used to point out the location to my riders. Cameras would fly out and clicking would commence. My guess is that there are millions of photos of a dirt lot with abandoned cars in them that people have kept as happy reminders.

I don't remember the name of the one we used to go to - it was a couple of miles down the road from the campus - on that same road, across from the Stop & Shop I think.

Before you could get Ben & Jerry's here in RI, we were known to drive to VT for an ice cream cone (before kids). Then when we had kids we would camp a lot in VT and get the "factory seconds" ice cream pints and eat them around the camp fire. Good times!

I owned a Residential Care Home for a number of years and many of my residents worked in sheltered workshops. One such was operated by Ben & Jerry's. The workers would, well, I'm not sure what they did but, it had something to do with assembling those containers. Anyway, every night they would return home with 10 or so pints of "2nds". We may not have served the best meals in the state but we did have the best desserts.

I've waited over an hour for Shake Shack multiple times and I even thought the Sonic lines in NJ were ridiculous.

Well we did talk about restaurants so much I decided we'd eat at our local A&W. They are closing for the season on Saturday. A root beer float and coney dog just sounds :hungry:.
There's an A&W in a town about 15 minutes from where I live. It's mainly a sit-down style (although still fast food), so it doesn't close seasonally. I also heard a rumor from my friend that the restaurant he used to work at is going to turn into an A&W. So that would cut the drive down to a couple minutes! :D

That's what ours does, along with Rita's and most of the local ice cream stands. All the more reason to spend the winter in FL says I.

We don't have any ice cream stands... or any stands for that matter. Well, we do have one little coffee stand, but I've never seen anyone use it.

Rack up another point for small town Wisconsin. :p
