I wish my local Wal-Mart would listen to you. They'll probably have Christmas decorations for sale by mid-September. Talk about overkill.
Chritmas season starts the day after Halloween, actually probably before Halloween is even over. The stores need their money!

It managed to make the Chrysler Sebring look cool. That's a sign of a good song.
The choir version of the song is incredible. Sure, Eminem's original will always be the best. But this is a brilliant cover of the song. If you had asked me before hearing this if I thought a choir could pull off a good rendition of Eminem's best song, I wouldn't believe it. But this group proved me wrong. Excellent, excellent, excellent.

One Little Spark...
I think my kid is getting old enough where I need to start meeting her teachers...I think I'm going to make time to do the next parent teacher conference, because her mother has the mental capacity of a stapler.

Of course, I love her Mom, sweet lady, overall decent (ghetto) mom...lots of potential, but peaked in high school and still at nearly 30 hasn't grown out of that...

Yeah, a stapler...even though she just graduated a 2 year online course with a degree in "criminal justice"...she thinks she got a "law degree" (that's what she calls it, which shows you how much she learned)...

Oh well, glad she graduated. Pell Grant at work...lots of education, very little knowledge.

<sigh>

Next I'll get to listen to her gripe about how she "got a college degree" and jobs aren't willing to pay her 100k a year, cuz, youknow, that's what college grads make!

Anyhow...I think I'm going to have to pick up her 12 year old uncle as well...

Being a "daddy" sucks sometimes, because sometimes you need to make very difficult decisions, and based on what I've seen, it think this will be the last year that I allow the 12 year old (he's not my kid, but he has direct influence to my kid) to attend public schools...and I don't think I can let him slide by ignored for much longer, for my real concern, my kid.

In my estimation, the kiddo is doing allright...

Very well with her reading, but lacking comprehension (not so required at age 8, but as she hits 9, I'll start to look for more)...I am pleased with her composition skills, and over the next few weeks she wants to work on her website, which leads to logic and coding, which I am excited to do with her...

(daddy daughter fun!)

Her math is also decent, I'd rather she be doing better, but not everyone is into math (and I wasn't at her age either). Her civics/history and craft skills are passable...I'd call it average, but the bar is so low even for adults now, that I'm not even sure what I should gauge it to.

So, no real complaints.

Her 12 year old uncle though is entering a dangerous position educationally, where even the best school districts fail those who are intellectually capable...and he's certainly not in the best school district...I worry he turns into his (lack) of father figure...smart kid, he needs to start forming productive interests outside of sheer consumerism...

But, he's probably not going to get that from his welfare momma, or my increasingly fat and tatted ex (even with her "law degree")...

<sigh>

Dunno why I'm thinking about this...well, I do...I'm trying to budget out and plan what my next trip with the kiddo will be...and if this comes into play, it will effect said budget.

And yes, I am just griping because I can!

This is the first enjoyable version of the song I've ever heard...

(kidding, I don't really hate Eminem...I liked G12 a lot!) He's a talented guy, bred and groomed by Dre (another master)

Actually, I said I enjoyed this, I don't.

For the same reasons I hate the original song...

It makes no sense.

You don't get "only one shot"

You don't "have only one chance"...

That's not life.

This is nothing more than an intricate excuse for failure.

"Well, I was only given one shot, and I failed"...

No, you will fail over and over again in life, that's a much better message. The test isn't if you fail, the test is how you deal with failure. What do you do next! THAT is the lesson...

So...the message? Well, I guess one could turn to Christ (I don't want to get religious)...but I think that's their message.

Also, with this specific video, note the expectations set. "You will be a famous boxer, a famous dancer, a famous bball player...)

I get the "work hard at it" message, especially regarding Detroit, but it's stupid to tell your kid that if you participate in a childhood game, and can turn that into a career, and that you can't turn anything else into a career.

It's a stupid video, and part of what is wrong with the overall mentality of Detroit...

There are many...MANY...better songs to choose (though I appreciate their message, not trying to crap on the video per se)....
