Both of my children had class trips to DC - from Florida. My daughter lived there for several years, and actually had her wedding there, so I've visited several times. My husband grew up in the Philly suburbs, so I've been there many times. The same with Boston & NYC.

I've also been to Williamsburg a few times, and just visited Annapolis for the first time. Been by it several times, but never stopped.
Now I remember why it is we couldn't go: combination of stupid Baltimore County regulations and a school that was unwilling to pay for trip insurance. We went to Hershey Park as a field trip in middle school for music in the parks, and the county thought that was dangerous. Which is why we went after school let out to get around that regulation and the high school (yes, high school) music boosters paid for the insurance.

Annapolis is a beautiful city. We try to go there for the day at least once every other year. The boat tours are pretty fun, and there are a few historical sites that are free to visit. I like Charleston, SC too. I have relatives down there and considered College of Charleston (but got zero financial aid, so could not swing it). Annapolis and Charleston remind me a lot of the other.

When we went to that event at the Red Skins Stadium, no joke, it took us four hours to get there. An hour just sitting in traffic at one point trying to get to the next exit.

DC traffic is the absolute worst.

I think some people think Baltimore and DC are closer to each other than they actually are though. It's not like it's a 30 minute drive between the two. The other DC location I've been to is Washington Dulles. United has nonstop flights from Dulles to Honolulu
I'm about an hour from DC in no traffic. We rarely go there though, since there's never no traffic. It's a great city, so much to do. It was easier when I lived there and could take the metro everywhere.
Annapolis is one of my favorite places to go, not that we do that often either. Never go to Baltimore except for games, no reason to. Aquarium is cool, but not something I need to see very often.

I never drive to Chicago for the same reason. Don't they have trains from Baltimore to WDC?
Yes, and that is how I would get down there, but I have a father who refuses to use trains and parents who would not have let me take the train with just friends before age 18, when they no longer had a say in the matter. It's still 45 minutes to even get to the train from where I live.

When you're the leader, you don't have to follow.
So, Hubby and I took two of my brothers out for dinner tonight, as they both missed last week's turkey dinner.
Apparently Brother #3 complained that I didn't invite him/his family as well.

Here's the sitch:
- Terry is disabled, separated, my favourite brother, and I'm all he has (more or less).
- Mark is disabled, separated (from BFF/SIL), spends days on end in bed, and I'm all he has (literally).
- Jamie (Brother #3) is married, has two kids, is employed, has a life, a lovely home, and quite frankly does way more with his wife's family than with our's. Also, he has never picked up a bill in his life, despite having the ability to do so.

In addition to paying for dinner, I lent (on the never-never repayment plan) each of them $200. Tonight cost us more than $500.

I can't afford to take out Jamie and his family as well!
(P.S. - it was Jamie's kids I took to Disney - mostly on my dime, last year and the year before.)

I think I smack him next time I see him.
All in favour, say "aye".

I don't go down to Baltimore very much either except for sporting events. I've never even driven in the city. I don't have much reason to go there. I don't live that far from Towson which, although it's not the center of the universe as its residents would have you believe, has a decent mall and restaurants.

That is a good mall, I just wish it was closer to me. Columbia is closer, but it's not the best mall and Columbia is a pain to drive in. This whole area is a pain to drive in. Hence why I'm trying to move south. :)

Well I get the parent thing.....

When my folks moved us out of Chicago when I was a little kid, my Sis and I were not allowed in Chicago. Period.

I was an early teen when a friend of mine had an extra ticket to the Chicago-Beach Boy Concert. We went with his brother and his friends. If I asked my Dad he would have said No. Zero discussion. My Mom was in Arizona visiting her Mom. I wanted to go, it was a once in a life time double header concert.

So, I went out for the evening, Dad went to bed. My Sis at my curfew opened and closed the front door and then closed my bedroom door. (she said my Dad got up and used the facilities and went back to bed.) I quietly entered in around 2am.

BEYOND HILARIOUS!!!!! :joyfull:
You have NO idea how close I came to posting that same image of Archie and Edith's chairs because of a silly story behind it...
My younger sis (12 years my junior) went on a choir trip to DC back when she was in HS with my folks. They got all the way through that particular museum and out the door when pop realized he had missed that exhibit...!!! How THE HECK, I have NO clue!!! Anyway, they asked to go back in just for that, and his wish was granted. One more off the bucket list...! ;)

And yes, I, of course want to do them all, as well, but, I could spend days (and nights ;)) in the Air and Space Museum...!!! :)

My picture from inside the Newseum (wonderful Canada next door)...One thing about DC, for so many beautiful buildings, there is so many ugly ones. Canadian Embassy is one. Looks like a giant cement block. God, the US has horrible architecture.

Oy. I could really argue this one...

Haha, so you were a sneaky teen, huh?;)

Yup, I get their reasons as well. I don't understand how when I was in high school, there were parents who would let their kids take the light rail down to Baltimore City for O's games and such. I thought that they should at least have a parents, preferably a dad, with them. Even now, I don't think taking the light rail is safe. If I were to go to the city with friends, unless a guy or parent was with us, we'd drive. I'd be willing to take a train down to DC with my bff. She's done it before. My mom, although she has zero say in the matter, has said that she would be fine with that. My dad would be another story. But seriously, I go places around here without them all the time, have been to WDW with my bff just us,and she's been to DC before and knows her way around. Think we could handle it, especially if we were going to the tourist traps.
