My nephew is in the Air Force and just shipped out to Japan for four years. (He was back in the U.S. (Wyoming) for one year and Turkey for six years before that.) The picture just made me think of him.

Please, thank him for me for his service and sacrifice to our country.

Will do. My nephew's little boy (he's six) was excited to move to Japan so he can learn the language. He's already fluent in English, Spanish and Turkish. I keep telling my nephew he's raising a future translator.

Well, we just decided to take us a spur-of-the-moment day trip down to San Antonio tomorrow.
We'll do the Alamo in the mornin', then the Institute of Texan Cultures. The rest of the day will be spent mostly along the River Walk, with dinner on the River Walk tomorrow night before we head home.

And FWIW, this isn't a flattering angle. I held my iPad under the coffee table and the angle makes her look a hundred lbs heavier.

This is also my excuse for every single photo of myself, but that's besides the point.

I made a spice cake for a party tomorrow, but left out two (of three!) eggs and added pumpkin instead.

Then I opened the icing to uh, see how pretty it is...and realized it melted and was utterly gross.

So I made my own.

I've never used flour in icing before, but I gotta say, it turned out very well. In fact, I like it more than the cake. I leveled off the round halves so they will sit flat and sampled the combo.

WOW.

My taste buds are doing the WITWIBS chicken dance right now.

It's not assembled yet, but I'll definitely post one in the morning when I get it together I like the cake to be borderline frozen, it makes icing it a lot easier.
