Tech talk: Probably going to get my new toy (Surface RT) tomorrow at the toy store (Best Buy) since the price just went down by $150

Office 2013 (Office 360) runs very well on it.

That's good to know. I'm asking on my school's FB page whether to get Office 2013 or 2010. Don't want to run into issues if I get 2013, and there are upperclassmen and administrators who can answer my question. Either way I get it for $25 and it comes with Word, Excel, Powerpoint, OneNote, Outlook, Access, Infopath, Publisher, and Lync.

Get 2013. There are no compatibility issues. I've already done the compatibility assessment for my organization.

The only issue you'll run into, potentially, are people using Office 2003 or earlier that do not have the compatibility pack (free download from MS) installed on their system. The 2003 version of Excel doesn't like the .xlsx format as a default. Again, the compatibility pack solves this, and Office 360 / 2013 still allows you to save in the .xls format if you decide to do so.

I'll add to that...there are MAJOR improvements to 2013. I know you are getting the student MSDN pricing (that's what you just indicated, I used to have the same deal when I taught college...it...was...SWEET!)...

2013 operates faster, but otherwise you won't notice too many other major changes in UI...

It is wholly backwards compatible (including macros, etc) as long as you download the actual application and install it locally, as opposed to running it on the 360 cloud.
