My sister's band marched in D.C. during the 2009 Presidential Inauguration. She said it was cold but A LOT of fun.
Two days from this exact moment my eyes will be glued to the television!! So excited!!!

We'd be going in October. The weather is pretty nice there then. I wouldn't go back in the summer (made that mistake once), but the fall is pretty nice.
In middle school I marched in the Oktoberfest parade. It was long and boring, and one of our drummers got a hot dog thrown at him.

We marched in NYC down 5th Ave in high school, but our school committee would not authorize an overnight trip, so we had to be bussed there and back on the same very long day. One of my friends and I were selected to march in the Rose Bowl parade, but the costume was really atrocious, so we ended up turning it down. We were so stupid back then!

are they boys or girls or one of both ?That's way past sad, considering how close you live. How can you not have gone at least once? Too busy with Disney

We're thinking of just a quick 2-day trip, so we'll probably do the Natural History museum and the National Zoo. Then if we have time we'll do more Smithsonian stuff, and I want to take them up the elevator in the Old Post Office and maybe over to see the National Cathedral. The kids will be a little young to appreciate some of the historical stuff, but they'll be impressed with the city I'm sure. I'm checking into the tour bus things where you hop on and off wherever you please. I think that would work best for the kids (and adults) to minimize getting them over tired. I'm so excited that they're coming.(They live out in Seattle, so we don't see them very often.)
We'll probably be taking them to Boston too, so we'll probably do the Duck Boats there, but thanks for the suggestion. Now I just have to figure out where to stay. Dave and I usually stay in Falls Church, but I think we stayed in College Park once too when our kids were younger.
Not to point fingers at the culprit, but *cough* Cheney *cough*

I know that "atrocious" and "anchovies" look nothing alike....but I sure read that as "our costume was really anchovies"....I'd have turned it down also!
