I can't even talk to G about the weather.

Furthermore, he honestly believes that he is carrying the entire site.

The boss worked with us for our grand opening weekend, and on the Sunday night, she said to me, "I had no idea he had gotten this bad. If you can't work with him, or he can't do the job, I'll replace him immediately."
So, I know it's not just me being hyper-critical.

It was at that time that I resolved to put up with him for the duration of the phase. I promised the boss that I would make it work; but more importantly, I promised myself that I would make it work.

Truthfully, after this phase, I already know that he is done. Can I just hold out a few more months? Ay, there's the rub.

That part up there really makes me think, and especially since you've known him for years and mentioned this before, that along with being let go, he really needs some sort of followup medical evaluation. It sounds like he is suffering early stage dementia/Alzheimer's. Does he have family that can help him? He obviously needs to go, but, he definitely sounds like he's gonna' need some help adjusting for this next inevitable phase of his life.

Hope everything went well with the sales tonight.

And, as well as can possibly be expected, with your old friend.

That's kind of what it sounds like to me (Alzheimer's, Dementia is accompanied by physical symptoms, per psych professor). He's getting like my grandfather, who forgot that I graduated from high school. Who also forgot to tell his wife that he had a Dr.'s appointment, and then forgot what time it was (it was supposed to be at 1, he showed up at 10) and he freaked out his wife because she called the house and he wasn't answering, so she had to call my mom to go over and make sure that he was not there instead of dead on the floor. Good times

Yes, and then throw in the excessive drinking, which is most likely his (absolutely wrong) way of dealing with the inevitable, and the downward spiral will happen even more quickly.
God bless him. I hope he gets the help he needs, but, that's also, even considering the state his mind may be in, a lot up to him. Sad fact, but, life goes on.

More snow coming tonight. And it will be in the 60s by Friday, so it's just going to melt. And then next week it will be consistently in the 60s. Good. I'm done with bipolar weather

And while we're trying to make each other smile...my favorite cartoon of all time:

MidvaleSchoolForTheGifted.jpg

I have several of Gary Larson's books, caught his panels in the paper, and I used to get his page-a-day calendar every single year. Then he retired, but, still put out a "Best of" calendar for about 3 more years. I always thought he'd come out of retirement a few years later 'cause how do you keep all those thoughts bottled up for very long?!?!
I picture a room somewhere in his home piled up with panel after panel that he's just waiting to unleash on us in some crazy way someday soon...
