Now even just changing a headlight involves a lot of steps. My friend's Malibu had to have the bumper, grille, and tires removed according to the manual before you could get to them.

Dinner is almost done. Cabbage Rolls, Polish Sausage and Tossed Salad. Pick your own dressing.

Yeah, even though I am Irish I'm not fond of the food. Have to go to a good Jewish Deli to get my cornbeef sandwiches.
I like Shepard's Pie and the traditional Irish Breakfast. That is about the extent of the Irish food I enjoy. I went with a cheeseburger at the Irish pub tonight. I didn't want breakfast and made a Shepard's pie last week. And when I say made, I mean I bought it in Costco and stuck it in the oven. Sorry no food prep pictures from me anytime soon.

Cornbeef I think isn't so much a traditional Irish food as it is a food that was popular among poor immigrants who needed cheap meat. So where you get it for today doesn't really matter.

Here in Ontario, liquor and beer are only sold in gov't owned stores, named appropriately The Beer Store, and the LCBO (Liquor Control Board of Ontario).

Hubby's work partner keeps giving him LCBO gift cards, and one (with a substantial balance) has turned up missing. Hubby is furious.

Son #1 doesn't live at home, and is a non-drinker, so we're pretty sure it wasn't him. Besides, if he had wanted it, he would have just asked, and his father would have given it to him, seeing as how he just turned legal last week.

Son #2 has a problem with alcohol and weed. He swipes any libation that is not locked up. And gift cards too, from the looks of things.

Oh well, time to go home and face the battle. Sometimes, every once in a while, I wish I drank. Sadly, I come from a long line of alcoholics so I never touch the stuff.
Ya know, I've got two cousins. They've both been into meth, alcohol, weed, the works (both of them are also bipolar). It's taken a while, but the older one has been clean for about 5, going on 6 years. He's got a five year old that's not even biologically his, but he's been raising her with his girlfriend her whole life. The younger one has been in and out of prison, but he's finally turning it around so he can get custody of his girls. My point is it may take a while, but there's hope.

Sending hugs your way.

So remember that ankle I sprained on my trip to WDW? Well, after conferring with my parents, they told me not to worry about it and give it time to heal. Well, it's been two months, and it's still swollen and painful, so yesterday I pretty much insisted that I needed to go to the doctor. Turns out I've got stretched out ligaments and a damaged tendon and am looking at another 3-6 weeks of recovery on a different brace. Plus possible physical therapy. I'm supposed to go back in three weeks to figure out if I need an MRI. Should have gone with my gut and gone weeks ago when my parents were away, would have probably been further along, but anyway...joy.

Exactly, tomorrow I have to bring my tired old Deville in to replace two items that would have been a 15 minute repair in my youth. A water pump and a couple of cooling system related gaskets that are leaking just a little. As I said, it would have been 15 minutes and probably no more the $15.00 to repair back in the dark ages. I already have been told what this little minor repair is going to cost... $1300.00.

Nemo, I had the same philosophy with my daughters. They had to change their own oil, rotate their tires, fix flats if necessary, and generally do whatever small repair that came along. One even did a brake job on her car. I was looking on, of course, but she did it by herself with my guidance. I saw how women were treated by garage people and vowed that they would never be taken by some jerk for repairs that weren't necessary. My X-wife once was told that she had to replace all four of her tires because she had hit a curb with one wheel and bent the wheel. They showed her how the tire was "bent" and had to be replaced. Then they convinced her that she had to replace all four because it was important to have a matched set. I got quite a chuckle out of that. I wouldn't have if we had been married at the time, but, we were just engaged at that point. So it was funny. I have a weird sense of humor like that! :angelic:

Holy carp!!! 15 minutes to replace a water pump plus other cooling system maintenance?!?!?! What the h**l were you...your own one-man pit crew?!?!?!?! Most folks can't change their own oil in less than 15 minutes. o_O
I don't EVER remember a water pump takin' even REMOTELY CLOSE to as little as 15 minutes to replace.
At least, not on cars I've ever replaced them on. My '71 Olds Cutlass with a Rocket 350 took considerably longer. The fan, the belts, the pulleys, the bolts, scrapin' off the old gasket, cleanin' the block surface, puttin sealer on the new gasket, etc., etc., etc.
I thought that would be the worst until I volunteered to help my BIL replace his on an '81 Chevy Chevette about 20 years ago. Had to take off the timing cover and belt to get to that one (as is also the case with the vehicle I presently drive).

As far as our girls go, they both know the basics, and if they ever have questions about a repair they call/come to me (although, oldest's DFiance knows plenty himself). Youngest is a bit more into vehicles and loves her old truck although she's savin' for a newer model. She can replace bulbs, change oil, replace a flat tire, etc. They know pretty well how not to get taken by somethin' they can't do themselves and have to take to the shop. Plus, it helps that we have a trusted mechanic. :)

*hugs*

My ex has a bad problem with weed. And before anyone says "it doesn't hurt anyone" ...it does.

I hope your night is ok, despite what you're walking into this evening. :/ good luck.

Idiot-boy (I actually say that with affection) was smart enough to fess up and hand over the card.
So ... he's still in deep doo-doo, but no dead bodies to deal with.

Stayed around PO tonight, went to FQ for dinner. Busy at the POR food court.

And that's about it tonight!

Tomorrow is DHS in the morning; possibly Epcot in the afternoon to do WS and Illuminations.

Sounds like fun! You might want to steer clear of that tank in the Nemo ride...

My dad was very protective of us, but he also knew he wouldn't always be around, so it was important to him that we knew those things. He could fix anything. Funny thing was though that as much as he insisted we learn those kind of "survival skills" he himself had absolutely no skills in the kitchen at all ("Women's stuff"). My mom fell down a flight of stairs when I was in college and was hospitalized for a few weeks. I had to move home and commute to school because he couldn't even make a cup of tea for himself.

Funny, although he's gettin' a bit up there in age, pop has always been able to take care of himself in any way he needs. Him and my mom make a great team, if not a slightly cranky one at times. :angelic: ;) They crack us up! :)
Pop, as well as car repairs, smokes meats (BBQs) like a crazy person, does woodworking, repairs and replaces appliances, volunteers to do taxes for the elderly (which is kinda' funny since he is '81 and most of the people he works with are younger than him. :joyfull:), etc. Mom is active everywhere and still bakes and sews and...y'all get the idea.
Anyway, I hope I'm half that active when I'm their age.

My mom was a hospital volunteer til her mid 80's. She'd push people that were half her age in their wheelchairs when they were released from the hospital. She just turned 94 and now suffers from Alzheimer's, so she's not allowed to volunteer anymore.

I remember you posting about y'all celebrating her 94th!

At what stage is her Alzheimer's?
I have an aunt that was SO beyond funny, active, silly, etc. But, within' the course of only about 5 or so years doesn't even know who or where she is anymore. She has been in a home for about a year. So beyond sad. We miss her dearly.

She usually knows who we are, but she has absolutely no short-term memory, and her bones are quite weak, so she's had 3 major falls this past year, in which she broke a rib , had compression fractures in her spine, and broke her hip. Her food all goes through the blender now, and she often has no appetite, except for ice cream. She's slowly fading away, but every now and then she really rallies. She lives with my brother and his wife through most of the year, but DH and I take her in here for a few months during the summer to give him a break.
