its pretty simple.
There are a lot of things that Americans ( as in from the USA) stereotype about the Russians.. mostly due of the "they are our biggest enemy" thing and the hate for anything that sounds like "socialism" or "communism".
Like inventing special exclusive slurs, myths, tales..etc..
so unsure if that wafer thing is a myth, story or other thing invented or passed by Americans.

I still don't understand how you are comparing communion to communism. That makes absolutely no sense to say communion is a slight against Russians. And having two grandparents right off the boat from Italy, taking communion was NOT something made up by Americans. But this is not the place for debate. Let's just say it may be something "lost in translation" for you.
