So DH wanted to go to Beaches 'n Cream today for our last lunch here.It was mid-afternoon, so we figured there wouldn't be much of a wait. We only waited about 5 minutes to be seated, which was great. However, when we looked at the menu, they wanted $15 for a hamburger. $15!!!! So we got up and left, drove over to Chili's and had a very nice lunch with beverages and paid less than $30 including a generous tip. Lesson learned!

Yes, some cultures have King cakes for Epiphany.
In France they have the "Galette de Rois" on Epiphany. It translates to King Cake, but it's not like the Mardi Gras cake. Instead it has apples in it. Instead of a baby, they put a bean inside, and whoever gets the slice with the bean is "king for the day" or something like that. I don't like it as much as the Mardi Gras cake, though.

Here's a picture of the Epiphany King Cake.

We have this every year in French, too.

I didn't know it was referencing Jesus. It would make sense, though. More sense than throwing a random baby in a cake.

^ That might be interesting for people reading the live feed!
Putting the baby Jesus in the oven actually sounds slightly worse...

Although it explains why people put up with the horror of the king baby in my avatar. Something that looks like that is a bit more bearable when it can turn water into wine.

Yet another reason why the French are healthier than us.

I actually bought and had shipped a king cake from a place in New Orleans. I wasn't expecting it to weigh ten solid pounds. Pretty sure 9 of that was sugar.

It was the most incredible king cake I've ever had. :)

Don't let the apple part fool you. It has plenty of sugar and cinnamon in it.
