You're lucky to be 5' 10"—gives you a bird's eye view of everything up there! I'm only 5' 5" and I'm missing out on 5" of viewing area!

I'd take 5'5".:p

Actually I don't mind being short most of the time. Those top shelves are issues, trying to clean the snow off the top of the SUV too. Attempting to see the trunk of the car or the end of the hood when pulling in or backing out while driving a sedan is an issue. Stuff like that.

Okay, I can understand school canceling because there aren't snowplows and equipment like that, but from those pictures it looks like there isn't any snow on the roads! :cautious:

P.S. Your dog looks like a smaller version of mine. :D
Our roads have been clear for the past day but they cancelled school because of the wind chill. Many of the city kids walk to school and those of us that depend on the bus (even though we have our own roadside shelter) have to wait on it to get there. :cold:

I understand that too, but I don't think the wind chill is a big factor in Alabama. @Lucky is right, it was probably the ice.

Anyway, stay safe everyone!

Yep our schools closed Monday and Tuesday just because of the temps., too cold to wait on buses as 75% of our kids are bused. Our high school kids go to a co-op high school and that is 7 miles away, no sidewalks so they all are bused.

My niece in Ohio that commutes a long long way. Happily she posted this early today:

Due to the ongoing frigid temperatures, Hathaway Brown will not be in session on Wednesday, January 29, 2014.

The Sixth Grade Orff Tales performance has been postponed to Thursday, January 30 at 10 a.m. A reception will follow. Girls are asked to come to school on Thursday in performance clothes (black pants/red Legacy Day T-shirt). The program will be livestreamed for parents who cannot join us at the assembly to view. Instructions for accessing the feed will be emailed.

Thinking she was doing a happy dance she had a day off. Nice the school streams live for the parents that can't attend.

So what did the Pup think of the snow? Mine loves to romp in it and lick up the fresh snow, especially when it is powder snow like we've had this month.

I get a giggle seeing the bicycles out in January.
She liked walking around in the snow, but she kept going in circles, the picture with me in it is me trying chasing her, but she just kept sniffing the snow and walking in circles. I eventually just picked her up and carried her around. Then we talked to some new neighbors, and she growled at them and when one tried to pet her, she backed away from the hand and opened her mouth almost as if to bite it. :p

Seriously? I'm doing the visual, it would make a great photo.
She has a coat rack with them next to her desk. They first did this yesterday so I think all the photos and silliness were then. I didn't grab one before since having my sports coat and winter coat on is very warm. Maybe I will after lunch, although my only issue is that my hands are cold.

Those are just pictures from my neighborhood. There's snow on the roads at a lot of other places.

It is definitely an ice issue.

Yesterday morning it starting raining on my way to work. When the drop hit the windshield it immediately froze. After two hours at work we were sent home...there was at least half an inch of ice covering the whole car. The freezing rain continued for several hours making the roads impassable after a while. THEN the snow came.

The temperatures are not expected to go above freezing until Thursday around noon.

So for now everybody is just STUCK where they are.
