Don't know where y'all are, but here it's in the negatives. I just got to my office, after leaving an hour earlier than normal to tie extra scarves and hats to lamp posts around my neighborhood and downtown (with a note simply saying if you're in need, please take it) just in case someone who is hat less or scarf less can be warm. I stocked up on them during the after Xmas sales just for this reason.

It's freezing. So cold, under my two layers of clothing, three pairs of socks, snow boots.. My toes feel like ice and my face finally thawed out, after being in my office for almost a half hour, with hot coffee and space heater blasting.

Please keep safe you guys. If you don't have to be out in this, please don't be!! It's dangerously cold!

And Florida folks, stop laughing.

I feel for you. Have to go out and shovel a foot of snow off our driveway and the temp is below zero (only -1, but still!). Just hoping that the wind dies down a little bit while I'm out there (wind chill has been around -20), but people gotta work.

160 days to Lake Buena Vista. 180 days to Ko Olina. 200 days to bankruptcy.

Actually my Dad has sold it as he is an old man but my Dad was a commercial insulator so we have above what is standard in insulation. I understand what you are saying but you don't deal with the cold we are having in your climate. We are talking 20 below several times this year already. The water starts out so cold before entering the home it isn't far from freezing to start with, the concrete foundations in our basements are already surrounded by frozen soil. Heat tape is a far cry from what we need up here. If you leave a small amount of running water it doesn't burst the pipes. Water is $10/per thousand gallons here. The little water we waste beats the burst pipes.

And when it gets this freak'n cold, all bets are off when it comes to living 'green'. I do what I have to do in the world of Frozen. 2 1/2 hours out in Frozen frostbite weather leaves little consideration to the 'green.'
I lived in Vermont for 60 years... I know about that climate. Many of those years I lived in a mobile home with water lines exposed outside. Heat tapes worked flawlessly. That's all I'm saying! I'm not trying to pick a fight, just pass some information.

Todays high has come and gone already. With windchill it's -15 right now.

And my office is a balmy 50 degrees. At lunch time I'm going to the (only affordable) store and getting a blanket. I'm freezing. :\

Hate this.

Liked for sympathy. I know how you feel; I get migraines semi-frequently. Goodnight!
I normally don't, but I should have went to bed even earlier. I almost fell asleep standing up in the shower this morning. Welcome back 8am class! :arghh:

We have quality too - Spiro Agnew, Matt Drudge and David Hasselhoff were originally from Maryland.

We will take over musically - David Bryne (Talking Heads), Philip Glass (classical composer), Billie Holiday (jazz/blues singer), Frank Zappa (just Frank Zappa), Eubie Blake (self proclaimed inventor of jazz, or really just an early jazz pianist). And we can still use the chickens -- Camilla and her friends from the Muppets.

You can't expect anything less from a 20 year music teacher and lifelong Marylander home for a snow day.

BTW - driveway is shoveled. 20 minutes with 3-4 layers over everything and I still couldn't feel my fingers by the end of it. It is 10 degrees colder in Manchester, Maryland than it is in Arctic Village, Alaska today.
