Where does Tomorrowland go from here?

Tomorrowland is a disaster. I prefer to spend the least amount of time there, but I always end up stuck in it due to overcrowding. There's no shade, it's fugly and there's just so much wasted space in a park that typically utilizes it so well. I'd be down for some demolition.

But anyway, what I think should be done? I don't have any faith in Disney when it comes to improving Tomorrowland. It's become a junkyard at both DL and WDW, just as EPCOT Center's Future World has. I think they should go forward with the plan to remove the Submarines and Autopia (I like both of these attractions, but I wouldn't be sad to see them go), then expand Fantasyland! I mean, we'd at least have a better chance of getting some decent attractions out of that.

I wonder if they could reconfigure things to make Subs and Autopia part of Fantsyland?

They shouldn't get rid of Tomorrowland, but it needs a serious overhaul. They could either go cool, sustainable future or sort of a future-from-the-past sort of Jules Verne/steampunk type feel. Either way, it is just flat out ugly, and outdated, with the grey and blue depressing color scheme and concrete everywhere.

Space Mountain is really rough and bumpy and the theming in the queue should be updated, but they could do an overhaul and make it awesome. The ride system for Star Tours could be re-purposed to some other space/time travel adventure now that there will be a whole Star Wars land. Autopia is just gross with all of the gas fumes. At the very least it needs to be updated to electric vehicles, but even with that it should have some updates done. Driving on a freeway in a fumey, gas-powered car is not futuristic at all. They could use that space for a really cool updated transportation themed ride. The whole Innoventions building should be reused for another ride or attraction or should be taken down for something else. They also need to either get rid of the people mover track and station or figure out something to do with it. It has just been sitting there looking ugly and useless for ages now. As for the subs, I think they should just redraw the map and make it part of Fantasyland. As for AstroBlasters, the ride itself is fine if they want to keep it, but it needs to be updated too, as every time I have gone on it in the last 5 years something hasn't worked properly, and like all of the buildings, it is ugly.

They could make Tomorrowland really amazing, and I hope that some of the massive expansion budget they have talked about goes towards making it so.

I for one love the Star Trek-esque queue line for Space Mountain once you're inside and off the roof of the former Captain EO (RIP) theater with all the Tomorrowland movie crap they haven't taken down next to the abandoned Starcade, where they play retro EPCOT Center music that they don't even play at lowercase Epcot anymore. Actually, that area feels very 80s EPCOT Center Future World for some reason, but I still think it's a waste of space and a terrible queue. I guess I kinda hate Tomorrowland.

I just think thematically, having an attraction themed to Space separate from Star Wars Land won't make much sense once it opens. Not only that -- but as dated and wonky as Tomorrowland currently seems, it's going to be 1000x worse once the fresh new next-gen land opens up. Tomorrowland is already a very sore spot for the park as it is.

Oh I agree! If I were the ruler of Disneyland SW land would act as a transition point between TL and FL, sort of like NOS is wedged between FL and Critter Country. It would be awesome!!
*geek out over*

It's almost like all the occupants are just letting their leases run out...

I'm expecting the other shoe to drop sometime in the next year or two before groundbreaking for SW land begins. That is, some kind of Marvel addition/expansion and a revamped TL announcement for DLR. I have no inside information, but Marvel at DLR and a TL refresh are inevitable don't you think?

Speaking of outdated, Pizza Port makes me feel like my seven year-old self. Holy moly, that place screams the 90's.

Yeah, pretty much the worst food on property as well. We sadly used to eat there because the girls wanted pizza. There are times where I would literally go somewhere else in the park to get my food and meet them at Pizza Port because I couldn't stand it.

^^^^ You really find Space rough and bumpy? Is it wrong to assume you don't ride Matterhorn?

I personally have always felt Space is pretty smooth. Maybe a little jerky at times with all of the turns but it's like driving a porsche compared to the model T that is the Matterhorn.

I enjoy the pasta at Pizza Port. Other than that, no. It's one of the last places I'd choose to eat at.

I find Space to be very smooth as well. Matterhorn is another story, however. Very bumpy, but I don't mind it.

The 2005 refurb saw a complete track replacement ala Big Thunder. It's been buttery smooth ever since. I don't think I've ever heard anyone complain about the current Space Mountain track, it's really one of the smoothest coasters around. WDW's SM on the other hand... yikes! It's up there with the Matterhorn in terms of giving my body a beating.

I would like to see an updated version of Epcot's Future World for Tomorrowland. I want to see the subs turned into a transportation or preshow for going to Seabase Alpha. We could have a building dedicated to nano technology along the lines of ATIS. The Tron coaster would take us into the world of the computer. A time travel ride could reuse the dinos. Finally there would be updated version of Horizons dark ride going into topics like bio engineering, robotics, space exploration and other future tech. Space Mountain would stay but be updated with a new looping track and effects.

And the WDW cars are incredibly uncomfortable...from what I can remember.

You are remembering correctly! But they are like Cadillacs compared to the Matterhorn's new(ish) bobsleds which look almost identical but somehow have about half the amount of legroom and were designed to make men sterile.

I love Disneyland's 'Space Mountain'.
The ride is so smooth on those rails, i really do feel like i am rocketing through space.
Love it.

:)

This past visit i rode the Matterhorn ( left side ) and had the most rattling ride ever.
Egad...i think it's worse now then when i rode previously over the last few years.
