For me, Disney mode starts when I am in the airport. Having my boarding pass in hand, I can feel the endorphins flowing freely and I want to skip around the gate like a little kid. By the time I am in the Magical Express bus, I want to start saying, "Are we there yet? Are we there yet?" And when the bus finally pulls into the driveway, I am ready to piddle with excitement.

Funny thing about that. I started going to WDW in 1983. In those early years economics forced us to drive there from Vermont. That was 1500 miles there and 15000 miles back. :)

After the first 10 or so trips I was able to afford to fly there, but it was never the same. As much as I hated the drive back home, the trip was as much an exciting part of the the Disney experience as the destination. Now that I live in NC, it's a one day easy trip via I-95 and I-4 so I am back to the excitement of the trip again. I also, probably, have become more familiar with WDW so there is less the sense of adventure and just enjoyment of the place.

Its gotta be the night before you leave... When your laying in bed KNOWING that you gotta go to sleep. But you can't. You have to! You need rest! No I'm Too excited! Can't sleep! God I have to fall asleep now! (disney creeps back in your mind)......... This is gonna be an awesome vacation!

Totally agree with you there hatter, god forbid if i ever forgot anything as im like a nervous wreck untill ive made sure i have everything i need. But then my other half will always pop up and say "as long as you've got the passports, travel tickets and money, anything we've forgotten we can always buy" clearly doesn't share my panic at times :rolleyes:. For me its the week before, the packing, the excitement of saying "just think this time next week we will be at Disney" :cool:

Haha. It's just the whole process, wait in line, make sure you have your Id and ticket in hand, don't have in liquids in your bag, take out your liquids separate container for those, take off your shoes and belt, empty your pockets, oh the thing buzzed step back through, etc. that process just makes me stressed, then after that its straight on through to disney!

We drive and a tradition we started so many years ago I don't remember exactly when it was, we get everything packed, get in the car, set the trip meter and have a "here we go kiss," and start down the driveway. The vacation starts with the kiss, and it ends in the carport on the way home with another kiss to welcome us back home. Sappy I guess, but it is our routine to begin and end the trip.
