When?

We always go to Denver the night before our flight and stay in one of the hotels right by the airport, catch a shuttle to the airport. So as soon as I get to the hotel, I start feeling it.

When I wake up at 3 am after MAYBE an hour of sleep, so I can be at the airport at 4 am, so I can catch my 6 am flight and I DONT CARE!

But really...once we get to the airport, once we get through security and sit down for our traditional breakfast at the McDonalds at the airport....THEN it hits me that we're REALLY GOING TO DISNEY WORRRRRRLD!!!

Good old McDonalds. Their new slogan should read: McDonalds, a delightful start to a great Disney Vacation!

When I see the sign on the Florida turnpike telling you next exit for WDW... I get so excited when we get off knowing WDW is only a few miles away... actual the magic starts when my we depart our house for the drive up... nothing is better than listening to Disney parks music on the way up.

Funny thing about that. I started going to WDW in 1983. In those early years economics forced us to drive there from Vermont. That was 1500 miles there and 15000 miles back. :)

After the first 10 or so trips I was able to afford to fly there, but it was never the same. As much as I hated the drive back home, the trip was as much an exciting part of the the Disney experience as the destination. Now that I live in NC, it's a one day easy trip via I-95 and I-4 so I am back to the excitement of the trip again. I also, probably, have become more familiar with WDW so there is less the sense of adventure and just enjoyment of the place.

What part of NC are you in? We are in the eastern part. About 60 miles east of Raleigh. We will be driving down in June. We are figuring it will take us about 10 hours.

Mine is as soon as we get to the Guard house and they greet us with "Welcome Home". Hubby absolutely can NOT relax until we have our room (with a good view) and we are unpacked- even if it's for a night! That's when I have to get creative and pour some booze in his coffee ;)

Thanks for the reminder...note to self..must put booze on my "things to pack" list!!

I know this wasn't directed at me but just sharing... we live just outside of Charlotte and it takes about 8.5-9 hours (if that helps you to get an idea). We hit 77 to 26 and then over to 95.

I'm in Cary, NC! It's exactly 10 hours from my door to the WDW entrance, but, I don't stop much. Just Mcdonalds on the way out of Cary (Drive though) and gas and I make a lunch to eat while on the road. Oh, yea...occasional required pit stops.:)

We are practically neighbors!!!! We will be traveling with an 8 year old....this will be our longest car trip to date. I am not sure how many stops we will have to make, but our plan is similar...bagged lunch for the road and only stopping for potty and gas. We do have some dear friends that moved from here to Palm Coast Fla last summer and we plan to leave here on early Saturday morning June 15th and drive to their house for dinner and a slept over and then head out to Disney early Sunday morning for our check in. Palm Coast is about an hour and a half from Disney from what they are telling me. I am as excited about that visit as I am Disney, well....almost ;)
