When to make reservations....

I am planning a trip to Disney for me and my Aunt next year. We are shooting to go sometime after Thanksgiving before The Christmas rush.
I've noticed that the publicized deals don't come out until soon before this time, and that the value resorts seem to fill up fast. I might just be paranoid, but I want to make sure we get to go on this trip.
So when is a good time to make reservations for this time?
If I make early reservations, once the deals come out, will I be able to adjust the price of my package? Has anyone dealt with this?

Thanks so much!

Not sure about "packages" but room only reservations can be modified anytime if a better rate becomes available. Within 6 days of arrival though, you can't cancel one ~ you can only change it.

Check when the "Pop Warner" meet is for 2009 first. Availability during that week will be much more limited as far as discounts are concerned. Generally the week after that, say around the 15th of December, has much more discounts offered and available. Early December is getting much busier at WDW (meaning less discounts need to be offered) ~ I have learned that over the past few years!

Whenever you know your dates, I say go ahead and book. If better deals come out you can adjust your package assuming there is availability.

A good travel agent will watch the package deals and adjust for you if a better deal becomes available.:D

Keep in mind that if you book at a specific resort, if discounts are available, they may not be at the particular resort or room category you want. Book the trip only if you are absolutely willing to pay full price for it. Otherwise booking a trip on the thought that you will get the room you booked at a discounted rate may not be true. Think of it this way, if a store has a number of different dresses and one is selling well, and another not near as well, which one would be put on sale first? Same basic principle applies to room reservations at Disney. Hope this is helpful! Belle

Thanks....

Thanks guys ya'll have been real helpfull. I've already gone through the Disney Site and seen how much the trip would cost, and I'm very much ok with paying the full price listed, any discount would just be icing on the cake.
I do have a quetion about the Pop Warner though. I looked on their site and didn't see anything about 2009 dates, by chance if they are there at the same time, is it worth going? I mean are the kids well behaved and such, or just run free?
Also, with this time becoming busier, is it too busy? I mean, is it better than say July or August?

Thanks again!

I'll try and let you know in a couple of weeks. We are going next week, not realizing it was "Pop Warner" time. From what I hear and read, parks are OK, value resorts are the pits, some blogs mentions kids run wild and coaches sit back and drink beer. No first hand knowledge of this and it is painting coaches with a broad brush, but that's the word on the street!

From what I understand, Pop Warner is usually the first week of December. We were there during that time in 2006 and stayed at All Star Movies. This worked out just fine. Most of the kids are housed at All Star Sports. They have so many activities going on during the day that we didn't really notice any affect on park attendance. The only thing we were disappointed in was that the All Stars share a bus. So, in the evening when they were allowed to go to the parks, the busses would get severely crowded. As far as behavior problems, I guess we got lucky. They weren't too bad. We did encounter some chaperones on the bus with a group of kids and the chaperones were toting their beers right on the bus chugging away and were totally blitzed. I was appauled. If I found out my kid was on a trip with chaperones who behaved that way, I think I would be standing on someones head. But that's neither here nor there.

Note about the discounts...that week was excluded from the discounts they were offering during that time.

I dont have this officially yet, but from what I understand, Pop Warner is the first FULL Week in December. So for example this year December 1st was on a Monday so the Pop Warner week wont start until Sunday Dec 7th. Hope this helps! Belle

OK, nevermind....

I've heard nightmare stories about the CL's when they stay in the value resorts; noise and disruptions, etc, though I couldn't say if thios is true as I have never been there at this time.

Yeah...

Once again thanks for all the help and tips guys, I'm real grateful.
I've actually been thinking about staying in a moderate hotel instead. Any suggestions on which one is the best. I think location is the most important thing. Being able to get to the most parks, but avoiding the buses. Is that possible? I know inevitably we'll have to ride them, but if there are other options, thats fine too.
I figure we might not stay as long if we stay in the moderate, but to have amemorable and enjoable short trip out weighs a miserable longer trip.

Well if you stay at a moderate, unless you rent a car, you'll pretty much be stuck with the busses to get to the parks.

If you wanted to go with a deluxe, you would have more options.

If you stay at Port Orleans (French Quarter or Riverside) you would be able to take a boat to Downtown Disney for a little variety.

For the moderates, you'll see a lot of threads debating which one is best. They are all pretty equal in my eyes. People like different things about each one, and love to defend their favorite.:)

Do you have any specific questions about any of them?
