Good Morning All. Just one simple question, have you ever seen something on a menu ( food or drink. ) at WDW that you say " No way am I paying for that " I know that food & beer is more expensive inside the bubble,I expect that, but I was having a cool beer at the Rosé & Crown and perusing the menu when I saw it was $37.00 for a 2oz pour of Johnny Walker blue label. Thats like £24.50 for a nip in my country.Whit!!! I would say its the only thing Ive came across that I would give the thumbs down, price wise.So have you came across anything you consider outrageous in the food & drink department?

Sometimes I do marvel at the prices, like the time my son had the $23.00 spaghetti and meat ball dinner at Tutto Italia. I mean it’s something that usually goes for $10.00 in a restaurant at home. On the other hand, a co-worker came back from Disney World recently and complained about paying $5.50 for a Bud-Light at the refreshment post in Epcot. I asked him “how much do you pay for a beer at Fenway Park?” He replied $7.00. So I guess it all comes down to your own perception.

I bought a 2 oz. shot of Macallen 18 year at the Territory Lounge for $30 a few years ago. The only reason I did this was because it was our honeymoon and I really wanted to try it.That was also the cheapest out of them. They had one year going for about $50 a shot.I would never spend that much for a drink at home and probably never will again on vacation. I am glad I did it though. It was goood.

I think in terms of your vacation, you will pay more than what you would do if you weren't on vacation. And then there is Disney. We always budget a lot more for days in the parks as we know we are going to be paying double.
I am from the UK and a pint of beer or cider is £2.70 - £3 ($4 - 4.50) and the UK is well known to be a lot more expenisive than the US. However, when we ordered 2 pints of cider at the Rose & Crown at UK Pavilion in Epcot we paid $18! (£12). Obviously we were on holiday so paid it without much fuss as we knew it had been imported etc but we took a photo of the bill, lol.

The price of Scotch Whiskey in the U.S. is ridiculous. How ever the Blended and Single Malt mention so far a very good Scotch. I am a sucker for a good Scotch but draw the line on wine. There are so many good wine that are sold at a reasonable cost outside of the world. I recently saw a wine we enjoyed at home selling per glass for almost more than double what the bottle cost. Ridiculous! Just because wine has become much more popular the past 10 years shouldn't give Disney the right to gouge people to death.

When not on the dining plan, we don't even shell out money for pop (a/k/a soda or coke, depending on where you live) or bottled water! When paying OOP, it's all about researching the best values we can find, sharing meals, skipping dessert, etc. We also bring breakfast foods from home and eat them in the room. We still allow a splurge here and there (e.g., a favorite snack or some ice cream on a hot day) and we certainly expect to pay more for everything than we would at home, but we don't go too crazy with purchasing non-essentials.

So I guess my answer is, "paying more than I have to for anything is 'too much money'" for me!

Honestly, I can't go to the signature restaurants. Unless it was the best food ever, I just couldn't do it and feel alright with the bill afterwards. Also, the same reason I have never enjoyed a margarita. (Although, I have peaked DH's interest, and we may split an avocado margarita this trip). I don't really drink much, so I don't miss it.

Will have to bring you some over from the UK :) $15 a bottle!
Whit !!! £10.00. That must be McTavish 3 year old...A decent bottle of blended like Black Bottle or J & B will set you back £15.00 unless the supermarket has a deal on,like this week,it's £15.00 a litre for Bells,Smirnoff vodka,or Gordon's gin..( $22.50 ) ;)

Dinsey's wine prices are not that bad. And by not bad, I mean in line with the rest of the US. Normal mark-up on a bottle is 100% to %150 retail. By the glass, even more. Thats just the way it is. Wine outside the restaruants is overpriced. All the bottles they sell in the various EPCOT countries you can get for a lot less at any decent wine shop.

As for the scotch, $37 for Johnny Walker Blue is cheap. Years ago (like 1995-2000), I had a friend who was selling it for $50 a pop in his restaruant in Manhattan, and they would sell a number of them each week.

I struggle with the question of how much money becomes too much at WDW. My wife and I had the Prix Fixe dinner at Bistro de Paris (now Monsieur Paul) last year. It came to $170 and I didn't think the experience or food was worth half of that. We would have been just as happy eating at Teppan Edo. Our favorite meal is 'Ohana! Now, we love fine cuisine, but I could do a lot with $170 that would ultimately give me much more joy than a meal at Bistro. Perhaps the thing with Disney though- they cater to every income bracket- and those of us that are middle-income get blinded by magic pixie dust at Disney and spend like we're millionaires!

I have to agree with you Hatter, regarding the 2oz pour prices. My husband is a scotch drinker, and we have Johnny Walker blue here at home, but he would never pay those prices. Some of the flute of champagne prices in Epcot are ridiculous, but the bottles of water are even worse .... anywheres from $2.50-$3.50 a bottle. Thank goodness for Garden Grocer!!!

I have really wanted to try V&A with DH, but considering the cost of the meal and the cost of childcare during the meal, it's really a lot of $...more $ than I'm currently willing to part with. And while I know so many people come out raving about it, people rave about a lot of things we've found to be so/so. So, maybe one day when the kids are much older.
