You've got all of the yankees going "?" Guys, when you're in The South, any soft drink is called a coke. In NE, we called it soda. The first time I asked for one down here, I got a glass of a tonic water sort of thing. If you ask for a coke, the waitress will ask you which flavor you want.

My thoughts are if you want Coke ask for Coke. If you want Dr. Pepper, Mr. Pip, Mello Yello, Pepsi, Sprite, etc ask for it by name. It's really difficult to wait tables when people in SC ask for Coke, but really want Sprite. Us Yankees haven't burst into flames by asking for it by name, so I'm thinking the Southerners can do it too. As for calling Pop, that's a huge "no, no" in my book. It just sounds so silly!

Coke tastes like BATTERY ACID to me! :hurl:

This reminded me of an email I got awhile back; in part it said:

For Your Info:

1. The active ingredient in Coke is phosphoric acid. Its pH is 2.8.
It will dissolve a nail in about 4 days.

Phosphoric acid also leaches calcium from bones and is a major
contributor to the rising increase in osteoporosis.

2. To carry Coca-Cola syrup (the concentrate) the commercial truck must use the Hazardous material place cards reserved for Highly corrosive materials.

3. The distributors of Coke have been using it to clean the engines of their trucks for about 20 years!

Now the question is, would you like a coke or a glass of water?

I think I'll stick with my unsweetened Iced Tea with lemon.

Here are some real facts about pop and other food.
1. All pop (soda) is acidic, not because of phosphoric acid (although that helps) but because of the carbonation. CO2 when dissolved in water makes carbonic acid. Throw in some citric acid (for fruity taste) and the pH drops even more. Stomach acid is about 100 times more acidic than coke.
2. I would hardly call phosphoric acid the "active ingredient", how about that high fructose corn syrup!!! Have you ever noticed that a lot of breakfast cereals have trisodium phosphate (as a preservative). That's often abbreviated TSP, yup the same stuff you buy at the hardware store to wash walls before you paint.
3. Tea has oxalic acid which also leaches calcium from bones. Oxalic acid and phosphoric acid when combined with calcium make kidney stones.

Ok shutting up now. I havn't lectured in a few weeks so this was my release of useless chemical information for the day.

I drink coke. If it's good enough to clean an engine it must do a great job on my tummy!!:slurp:
