What's with the wait times!? (hint.. they're low)

Maybe they will take the information they are learning now and eventually use in at DLR and WDW as a whole to improve the overall crowding issues and worsening guest experience many people have been complaining about

They've been doing it for a long time at DL... just incredibly slowly instead of pulling the rug out from people. The slow expansion of blackouts and exclusions has been growing steadily. And now with the Flex... Disney is furthering that example into dynamic blackouts.

Funny... Disney's implements crowd shaping measures on the park, passes, and new attraction... people are wondering 'if its all broke' because it's not actually crowded. How about its... "hey, it worked!"

Low crowds because:
1 - People without reservations will defer until they have one, or don't need one
2 - Blackouts
3 - School is still in session
4 - It's historically a low period because its right before summer break

Wait till SW:GE is a free for all, and the blackouts lighten up... then you'll be moaning about lack of FPs :)

No doubt it worked. I think some are wondering if it worked TOO WELL and if this was really their intention. Perhaps they didn’t foresee just how many people would postpone buying a day ticket during the reservation period. All of the other factors you listed are more predictable.

Except #3. The majority of K-12 students in Southern California school year end prior to Memorial Day. (They start school in mid-August.)

I based that on LA county.. which ends June 7... and other more general trends.. maybe LA is the exception for socal :)

Villa Park High School doesn't finish the year until next week. Graduation for Seniors and the last day of school for the underclassmen is Thursday, June 13th. The end of year Senior Band Concert is this Friday, which I always attend.

I'm pretty sure Villa Park High mirrors the Orange Unified School District, and Orange Unified is one of the major ones for Orange County.

In short, lots of public schools in OC are still in session through this week or next.

I said majority, not all.

And yes, LAUSD does have a lot of students. But other districts also are out.

Visit Anaheim has a great internal chart with the numbers.

Wait times are still low in both parks today. Many E Tickets are only in the 10 to 20 minute range for Standby lines. Water rides Splash Mt. and Grizzly River are 30 to 45 minutes as it is sunny and 76 degrees this afternoon.

Millenium Falcon: Target Run is 25 minutes.

I think they low-balled the amount of reservations they gave out and scared people away.

I hope this is still the case on 6/22. 🤞🏼

Wasn't the point of reservations so that they could max out the number of people they could let in before the system overloaded?

Obviously they low-balled the projections on how many people would show up to see the rest of the park, but I kind of assumed they already maxed out their SWGE reservations to full capacity.

I think what's happened here is that they maxed out their reservations to full capacity for tiny Oga's Cantina and the little shops nearby.

But for the Millenium Falcon: Target Run ride and the rest of the 14 acre land, not to mention the Disneyland Resort as a whole with 45 other rides and a dozen shows and spectaculars running each day, they dramatically low-balled the number of Star Wars Land reservations offered daily.

Eventually, they are going to have both E Tickets operating in Star Wars Land, and they will need to let in thousands more people per hour into the land. That should solve the bigger problem, but create new headaches for Oga's Cantina and the Star Wars facilities designed to only handle a few hundred people per hour while thousands wait to get in.

Yeah, I can definitely understand how that makes sense.

Which reminds me of another point that's been floating around in the back of my mind. Supposedly some restaurant space (and maybe some retail space, too?) was cut by Chapek the Terrible to control the costs. But doesn't that fly in the face of the old Pressler philosophy that supposedly still percolates today, that more direct revenue-producing square footage is a priority? Why cut out more restaurant space to save costs, if it's supposedly revenue-positive?

Yes, they cut out the big dinner theater restaurant that sits behind Oga's Cantina in the plans. Oga's was just supposed to be the side bar next to the big swanky restaurant. That space has been identified here by insiders as the blacktopped plot of land behind Oga's. It's been reported on another board that the restaurant was cancelled by Chapek because it was expensive to build, and would be expensive to run with AGVA union singers and actors doing the dinner theater stage show, plus all the special effects run by union stagehands.

It just didn't pencil out, and Bob Chapek as the ultimate "sharp pencil boy" that Walt so often warned us about, cut it from the opening day roster. It may show up a few years from now, or it may not.

It's Friday and Deluxe AP's are now blocked out until Monday. And wait times have crashed again, here at 2:00pm.

A bunch of E Tickets are only in the 5 to 15 minute range; Pirates, Haunted Mansion, Jungle Cruise, Small World, Star Tours, Submarines, Thunder Mountain. Another bunch of E Tickets are in the 20 to 40 minute range; Space Mt, Splash Mt., Soarin', Guardians of the Galaxy, Incredicoaster, Indiana Jones. Millenium Falcon: Target Run is only 15 minutes right now, while Radiator Springs Racers is 75 minutes.

All the C and D Tickets are 5 to 10 minutes in both parks. Philharmagic has no wait time.

Here's a funny comparison to DHS, home to the next Star Wars Land-
Mater's Junkyard Jamboree at DCA currently has a 5 minute wait, with 20 other rides in DCA.
Alien Swirling Saucers at DHS currently has a 45 minute wait, with 5 other rides in DHS.

Can you imagine what Star Wars Land will do to DHS wait times???

Like the Disney Parks Blog says, NOW is a great time to visit Disneyland. Now! Ahora!

It's not terrible here right now, but there are a LOT of annoying teenagers and annoying parents babying their children who are clearly not enjoying themselves. I was also stuck with screaming children on the Pirates of the Caribbean ride. The little squirts were clearly not the target audience for this dark pirate ride with creepy robots that resemble LA's homeless population shooting guns. But if you can stomach that, it's great!

I have a Fastpass for Star Tours II so I can experience the real Star Wars as God intended with Coruscant, podracing and Gungans (which autocorrects to Finland).
