What's up with Imagination?

Well, at least HISTA will be gone - and if Imagineering is half as talented as they purport to be, then the "Imagination Institute" theme will die with it.

It finally occured to me what they're up to...

They're going to build a "partition wall" that seperates the Imageworks (freshly refurbed) from the ride, like the one that kept Soarin seperate from the Land building and the one that is keeping The Wave seperate from the Contemporary lobby. They're putting a metal door in it too.

Or so i think..
Now mousermerf, what led you to this conclusion?? And what's this about a metal door? Where would that go?

From what I have heard about the proposed Imagination refurb, they want the pavilion to have one central area that you enter and exit through much like The Land or WoL. All from that central area would be access to the dark ride, 3D show, Image Works (possibly upstairs), and gift shop.

I personally love this layout idea for Imagination. All pavilions should be like that. Think about it: with The Land, you walk in and have a variety of choices all under one roof. It gives you the ability to move around, enjoy the atmosphere, and choose your form of entertainment. In contrast, Mission: Space, for example, has you joining a line from the fist step into the building. After the ride, I often see people rushing out through the post show to meet family members who chose not to ride. It just doesn't work as well, overall.

The permit filed (partition walls and metal doors) and then running into The Wave construction today.

The Wave is a full wall, sealed and painted, just like the one at Soarin used to be. It's not just a wooden refurb wall, it's a wall-wall.

EXACTLY! The Land is by far my favorite Pavilion because of it's design. I really hope they are also going to incorporate the concept with Seas and Imagination. These pavilions could easily be converted into a "Land Pavilion" design. This concept is great for absorbing crowds and very convienent in bad weather. Imagination needs an eatery and Seas needs an E ticket. All in all they could make these changes fairly easily (and without much cost). Merf is right though, Epcot needs some new stuff.

Just an FYI, but this rumor was promulgated by ReDis...whatever, and he was discovered to be a fraud. So while this still makes sense in theory, I wouldn't count on it.

WDW1974, your information is intriguing. Know anything else about the plans?

I guess we are not considering SSE new?

As for this whole wall thing-Where would it go?In between The Land and Imagination? This makes absolutely no sense to me.

I think this wall would basically be built between the exit of JIIwF and the Image Works. So they could then refurb the ride entirely while still keeping the newly refurbed and presentable Image Works available to guests. Kodak is big on 'in-your-face-advertising' and would never want to close Image Works if they didn't have to.

Im surprised that Kodak is still involved with the pavilion after all the fiasco since the first overhaul. And I am surprised they would pour more money into yet again BUT if there is another big change coming then kudos to Kodak for wanting to stay on board. Or will this be all of Disney's doings only this time with no funding from Kodak? Not sure when the current sponsorship is up, anyone know?

The original ride closed October 10th, 1998. Disney works with most sponsors on 10 year contracts. That would put it as expiring this fall.

Interesting.... I was recently told image works is in a permanent location and will not be moving upstairs after refurb ( which will be starting this year) . Second floor will be used however for part of ride & either load or unload!!!! What ?? I really can't remember? How large is the 2nd floor? , would it be worth sending part of the ride up there? :veryconfu

The second floor is huge, relatively speaking. The way the building is shaped, it sort of bows out at the second floor, and that's where all of the old Imageworks was held plus a large open area that was used for a gallery.

If anything, it's just about the same size as say Innoventions Southwest (Club Cool, Epcot 25 Gallery, Character Spot, and Fountainview).

Question....

Is the bump in the roof outline the ENTIRE second floor?
http://maps.live.com/default.aspx?v...t=-90&dir=0&alt=-1000&scene=3949784&encType=1

If so, then the second floor is HUGE! Though the western part of that *is* kinda central to the building... Could the roof space have been necessary for the turntable? That would have put what's remaining of that bump-up as the second floor Imageworks. Obviously they don't need that extra space for the turntable now... They might be able to come up with a way of spiraling up into that second floor area...

That would be AMAZING-The return of the 2 floor dark ride!

One can only hope they have the sense to bring the dark ride portion back up to the E ticket status of the original. Add a new 4-D film or D ticket attraction, refurbished Imageworks and a place to eat (all under one roof) and I think families will flock back to the pavilion.

Well, if the Imageworks is permanent - doesn't it take up part of the darkride track?

I think the only way they have any hope of restoring the attraction to any semblance of its former self is to add a lot of time/track back into it. So, if they cant get the track back, what happens?

I meant the interactive upstairs portion of the original (I don't remember what it was called). Not sure they will bring back the original track but the current track is long enough to add plenty of e-ticket type sets and really make a great attraction. Even in the shortened version I think it compares to HM in length. The "institute" concept is pathetic and I think they will remove it from the theme. So with the "new" space downstairs and the old space upstairs utilized for interactive games, and converting the theater to a d ticket or a new film and adding a restaurant they really could create a great pavilion worthy of Epcot.

It was called ImageWorks also. If you want to get technical, the full name of the current version downstairs is ImageWorks - The Kodak "What If" Labs.

I'd love to see ImageWorks reopen upstairs with new exhibits. I would hope that they wouldn't be like the terrible ones they currently have downstairs. Modern Rainbow Corridor, anyone? It's also too bad that The Land and The (Living?) Seas have full-service restaurants, that upstairs area at Imagination seems like a good place for one.
