What's better than Disney World? Apparently Chattanooga according to these kids!

What I think is lame is all the people jumping on the bandwagon of filming their kids reactions to telling them they are going to Disney. To me it just doesn't seem genuine anymore...but just a way for parents to exploit their kids with five minutes of internet face time.

I agree. First you lie to the kids and then get upset when they really want to go where you told them that they were going.....
I don't think that's spoiled. Stop lying to them and if it's so important to you for them to be happy, then let them be a part of the planning.

It may be true to a point. I have a friend who filmed their kids reaction and they never posted it on youtube.

Here is some fun things to do in Chattanooga...

I live 2 hours from Chatanooga and I can tell you I definitely prefer Disney!! You can only hit Rock City, Ruby Falls and the Aquarium so many times before it gets boring.

I think Disney's stranglehold over the imagination of children everywhere is vastly exagarrated.

'Going to Disney' is not the dearest wish of children everywhere. This idea lives mostly in the heads of parents and marketeers.
My, the amount of videos I've seen by now of parents who expect their children to be extatic at the prospect of a surprise Disney trip...

Me, I didn't care for Disney at all until I was eleven.

I don't think that's necessarily why all parents are filming these Disney surprise reactions. I think they've probably seen the cool reactions and wanted to see their own children that happy/excited. They wanted to capture that moment forever. Of course there are those who want to produce the next YouTube hit, admittedly. Just not everyone.

I think you hit the key mistake. The videos you see with little kids being upset at their surprise all have one thing in common. They were told they were going somewhere else. The kids get built-up on the idea of where they think they're going then get upset that they aren't going there. They feel loss before excitement. I think the key is to not let on that anything is going on. When it's an ordinary day like every other then ~~BAM~~ we're going to Disney World happens is when the kids just go berzerk in a good way. I only **wish** I could keep a secret of that magnitude from my boys. They'd just die and it's not like they've not been 9 times already.

That video is pretty funny. I've taken my family to Chattanooga and we all had a great time....WDW is fun but I wouldn't want to limit myself to vacationing there exclusively.

I've never surprised my kids with a trip to Disney. For us, planning is half the fun and I want the kids to be part of that fun. Conversations around the dinner table where we'd like to eat, shopping for new summer clothes and little toys for the plane ride, counting down the days, etc.... there's so much they would miss out on if we kept it a secret from them. That and I don't think I could keep a secret that big.

That being said, I have kept some secrets about our trips. We surprised the kids at the airport twice now with surprise travel members (grandparents and our sitter) and we did surprise the kids with La Nouba (I got the tickets kind of last minute and decided to keep it a secret).
