Whatever Happened to Stitch's Great Escape? Any Updates on That Space?

I completely overlooked the area where Stitch's Great Escape and Alien used to be! I totally forgot!

A few years back, there were rumors about Wreck-It Ralph possibly taking over that space, but since COVID, I haven't heard anything new. Honestly, I had forgotten it even existed, but it seems like such a wasted opportunity for the Magic Kingdom and Tomorrow land.

Does anyone know any updates on what's planned for that area? Honestly, I'd be thrilled with just a meet-and-greet at this point. Also, just a side note: I really enjoyed Stitch's Great Escape! I know it wasn't popular with most guests, but I was always puzzled by that since Stitch is such a beloved character.

To each their own but most people hated this Stitch attraction. Myself being one of them. AE was one of my favorite attractions and was sad when it was shut down. By the way, why was it shut down it always seemed popular when I was there?

That being said Disney seems to abandon places and ignore them while they teardown and rebuild other rides. There is this space along with the pavilion between what is now GotG and Mission Space, Also the gap between Germany and China (it's like World Showcase was never finished).

just venting

Both had completely different purposes. Alien was to frighten, it did, and the snowflakes of the world rebelled. I thought it was well done and hardly scarry if you were over 10 years old.

Stitch was more for comic relief and I thought it was a good replacement, but then the rest of the snowflakes couldn't wrap their heads around the humor of the chili burps and other flying liquids. Water BTW! The main problem is that there are two theaters in that building and instead of just cleaning it out and making one big show, they just let it sit and waste away.

People don't read warning signs, then when there are consequences for not reading warning signs, instead of making a point to read signs and try to pick up on context clues better they instead go complain that they didn't know Extra-TERROR-estrial was going to be terrifying.

The biggest problem with either show were the Stanchions. In other shows if the kids got screaming scared they could take them out. With that show (both) you were a prisoner until the torture was over. The Stanchions were necessary because that is were all the special affects came from. Bad choice in engineering. I was indifferent to Terror-estrial, but I found the Stitch one amusing, even as an adult. I guess I know the difference between water and spit or actual chili breath and manufactured. Call me crazy.

AE was IMHO one of the best attractions Dis had at the time. It always boggled my mind why guests who protested about how scary it was for their kids, took no responsibility on taking them in to begin with. They also would take their kids into haunted houses and scare rides at other parks without concerns. The argument of "Let Uni have the scary, more thrilling attractions, we want to cater to younger families" was a sell out. Dis should have left it in but made an age requirement to monitor who could handle the more adult theme.
Stitch was a horrible replacement and never caught on because so many guests compared it to what it replaced. Stitch was an obnoxious character that many find unappealing.

My opinion is that there wouldn't have been anywhere near that much upset if only they could have gotten up and take the child out. If they could have done that then they had only themselves to blame, but since the layout made leaving impossible then the blame could be put on the show regardless of whether or not they had ignored the warning signs.

And to some degree I agree. We can all sit and point a finger at those that ignore the signs, but there are a lot of warning signs in WDW and most of them are greatly exaggerated. I myself have ridden without problem many of the attractions that the signs told me not too. Why? Because it was never as awful as the sign made them out to be. This time, as far as younger children were concern, the signs were right on.

Unless they figure out a way to reuse the ride system (which is getting a bit long in the tooth) the demo of this attraction is going to be pretty expensive. There are pictures of the original attraction being built (missions to mars I think) and they dug some pretty substantial pits beneath the deck to install the ride system. It might even interfere with the tunnels underneath (that's just a guess on my part).

This is why I’m still not sure about Villains being at MK. They shut this ride down twice over the “scared kids angry parents” factor - not sure how an entire land will play out. And yeah, I know kids can leave Villains whenever they want, but kids will still fixate on something scary being in the nearby vicinity.

I guess a comment like this is just strange to me. I never was scared as a kid or an adult. My kids weren't either. Just a very fun attraction.

But that was also the first attraction directly off the hub by the castle front and center. Villains land will be more hidden in the back.

I mean - people have different experiences, right? I don’t think I ever rode it, but based on the comments here and the closure of both rides, I assume the scared kids thing was a real issue. Even the Evil Queen at Storybook dining was reworked with the Queen not visiting tables after parent complaints.

It might work, I’m not sure - but it might be like telling your child that the monster is not under their bed, he’s hanging out downstairs in the living room, so nothing to worry about, go to sleep, lol.

I should say I would personally like a Villain’s land, and don’t think it would scare my kiddo (he finds way more random things to get freaked out by, he’ll go chat with the Evil Queen all day if she wants to hear about Roblox and trains.) I still think it could be an issue for littles though.

They need to make a fun Stitch attraction. The Stitch animatronic was impressive, but the story of the attraction wasn't that great. People left going "What?" Maybe something similar to Pooh, where you're following Lilo & Stitch through an adventure. Kids would love that.
