What would you pack?

So if you were going to WDW for 7 days in the middle of July, what would you pack? Do you need extra pairs of clothing (i.e. shirts, socks, shorts etc.) Is there anything you have found that you absolutely needed and didn't have? What are your packing secrets?

If you do a quick search, you will find lots of threads about things to pack. My theory is if I don't take it, I will need it. Do you intend on doing laundry during your trip? If so you won't need to take as much. If I'm not doing laundry, I take 1 outfit per day per person. Then I also take 1 whole extra set of clothes in a zip loc for each kid (I take that into each park with me). I also take 1 nice outfit per night for each nice table service dinner we've planned. If I plan on doing laundy I take half of what I need and we wash and re wear. Make sure you take your prescription meds as well as basic stuff for headaches and such. I used to pack 2 pair of tennis shoes per person as well. However, since we started wearing Crocs, I don't take tennis shoes at all. For the kids we only take their Mickey Crocs. They wear them to the parks and even to the nicer meals. The hubby and I do take some nicer shoes to wear to dinner. Oh and don't forget to take bathing suits! We try to hit the pool during the afternoon then again before bed, so we take 2 bathing suits each. It's too hard to try to get that wet bathing suit on for the night time swim

Oh my goodness. I always over pack. When I went in July, I took a sweatshirt for cold nights....well, there were none so don't take one. I took capris and wished I had more shorts. I'm not really a short wearer but it gets hot. Pack light colors/fabrics, too.

A must pack...ponchos for family, spray fans from Walmart, water bottles, two pairs of sneakers and lots of socks. (we'd change them when we went back to the hotel to freshen up) Also take two different casual tops for dinners...not your standard park t-shirts. Bandaids for blisters, tylenol and some sort of neosporin/cortaid.

Have fun!!:)

I'm an overpacker too. I always packed 2 outfits per day, just because you sweat so much there in July - it's nice to take a break back at the hotel then change into clean and comfy clothes for the rest of the day. Definitely pack sunscreen and a hat, comfortable shoes (you'll be doing a ton of walking!)and I always packed a little container of baby powder to freshen up with too!

Pack lots of socks and at least two changes of shoes for everyone. I also pack a medical kit with blister relief in it. Definitely pack spray mister fans. I can't really think of anything unique to pack, but when I make my total packing list I will PM it to you if you would like. I am a summer traveler, too, so we should have a lot of the same items.

My little secret that got me thru WDW last year...Avon sells a tired foot cream. I used it every nite before bed at WDW. I slathered it on my feet and all the way up my calves...the scent is strong but it did wonders!

Mostly everything that everyone has already said. But I also pack at least one stick of sunblock..in addition to the liquid or spray on sunblock. The stick of sunblock can be used for noses, ears, lips etc.

Last year I took some white camisoles, the T-shirt kind. Then I took 2 button down the front shirts. At the parks I wore V neck T shirts most of the time but if we were going somewhere nicer I just put the camisole on under it to dress it up or wore the camisole and a button down the front shirt left open. You can dress them up if you are having a nice dinner or wear alone with shorts in the parks if you'd like and they take up very little room. I wear tennis shoes but took sandals for anything extra we did at night or just to wear to the restaurant or pool at the hotel. I think I took 10 or 12 pair of socks because if we go in mid afternoon to let the kids swim then go back out at night I have to have a clean pair of sock. Sunscreen!!! I always take Epson Salts. you can buy them in the drug store in little quart milk carton packages. Add one box to your bath at night and you will not have sore muscles the next morning.
We have little battery operated fans that we take that are about 2" tall and 1" wide that we use instead of misters. They are great when you are standing in line for a ride and they fit in a shirt pocket. A hat or visor is great too as well as sunglassess. I pack 1 pair of shorts per day and 2 pair of pants for night stuff. Aloe vera, for whoever in your group gets sunburned. I found some sunscreen sticks like chap stick with little key ring type hooks on the lid. I hook one to each kid's belt loop and spend most of my day saying "Put on some sunscreen!"

Enjoy your trip, we are going in August.

Same here. The first time I went in July I packed capris thinking it would get a little cooler at night but boy was I wrong. I also always overpack. I like to make sure I have enough outfits for the length of my stay plus extras. I dont like to do laundry when I am on vacation that is why I like to bring extra clothes. Especially with the hot weather in July, when I return to the parks in the evening I sometimes like to refresh myself with clean clothes.

Breathable fabrics but no tight tee shirts. You want loose clothing to help circulate air. A loose, airy long sleeve linen blouse will be cooler and more sun-protective than a tight-knit cotton tank.

I plan on wearing two outfits per day since we intend to relax at the hotel during the hot part of the day. So after a swim and a nap we'll shower and slip into fresh clothes. I also change my shoes at this point so my feet don't get so tired. Peppermint foot lotion is cooling and soothing--use it am before you go to the parks and pm before bed.

Def. bring rain ponchos and perhaps a quick-drying small towel for drying off wet ride seats. Wet wipes, misters, sunscreen and hats (to protect from sunstroke)

You won't need super nice clothes unless you're planning a splurge at Victoria and Albert at the Grand Floridian (although I avoid shorts in the evening). Fresh, clean cotton capris, and a nice blouse will be more than dressy in most places.

The nice thing about going in the summer is you hardly have to pack squat for clothes. Just shorts and a t-shirt for each day, which takes up barley any room. It's not like when you go in February and you have to bring shorts, pants, short sleeves, long sleeves, and jackets for each day. It almost never cools down so there is no need for even a single sweatshirt, unless you want one for wearing in the A/C of your hotel room.

I am one of those folks that does laundry at WDW. I always bring my small sample size of detergent. Lucky me- a while back I found a small tide container on clearance for $0.85! Definately better than the dry stuff they have.

BTW- don't know if you're driving or flying- but here are some other things we bring.

Noodles for the pool (they also act as head rests on drive)

Small cooler with a carry strap (we take it poolside with us- filled with ice from the ice machine and some drinks!) Plus- when we didn't have a fridge- we used it in the room for cold drinks.

Sheets- we are DVC members and don't have maid service daily. Those flat sheets just never seem to stay on. We always bring our own fitted sheets. (Of course we bring our own pillows)

I always seem to forget all the various charging mechanisms for my phone-camers-video camers, etc.

I also have a mini purse that I wear around my neck/shoulder that I cannot live without. Then I'm hands free! I bring only the essentials into the park. Everything else gets locked up.

Don't forget to bring extra film and any extra batteries you might need, and take them to the parks with you. We made the mistake of forgeting batteries last year and they are ungodly priced in the parks, and the film is the same way.

As far as clothing goes . . . do not pack black shorts and shirts! I see so many miserable and hot people wearing black. It just absorbs the heat. I have found some Columbia brand shorts that I always pack. They are lightweight, dry quickly and breathable. Although a jacket isn't necessary, I find that I freeze in the restaurants and after a rain in the air-conditioning. I keep a lightweight jacket in my backback.

I would never leave home without a small baby power, anti-perspirant and a pack of Kleenex Wipes to Go to carry in my backpack. They are great for a quick clean up in the restroom. There is nothing worse than feeling hot and sticky all day long. Yuck. Also, some kind of lipbalm with an SPF. Sunburned lips are no fun.

If you are going to use a digital camera, bring a large memory card, or several cards with you. They are very overpriced at WDW.
What you can find on the internet (like at newegg.com) or at Best Buy or Target for $20 will be $50 or $60 at WDW.

Also remember the battery charger if you have rechargeable batteries. Maybe an extra set so you can use one set while letting the other charge.

Also, someone might have mentioned -
July will be hot and crowded. July will be hot and crowded.
Hot - pack accordingly. Dress to be cool but fashionable.
LOL

Have fun.

By the way, here's a hint that may help. Helps us.

Before the trip, we start putting everything, except normal clothing, for the trip in one place. Like in a seldom used room.

As we think of things, we put them there. Then we we are actually packing for the trip and running around getting ready to go, things don't get overlooked.
That includes batteries, band aids, chargers, stamps, special Disney hats, etc. that are normally put away somewhere, extension cord, cameras, and guide book.
Also (very important)- a folder with the tickets, reservation numbers, and any other WDW or airline paperwork.

Good luck.
