I have to agree, save for the bolded...Seeing that the clubs were MADE to look like that, by both exit polls, and by the very management that closed them, and were rewarded for doing so.

And you have actual proof of Disney Management's intent? In regard to even one of your list of "made to fail" venues?

By actual proof I mean corporate memos, policy papers, any form of official public declaration... Fanbois saying "Disney wanted them to fail" doesn't qualify, nor do anonymous or semi-anonymous posters [purported insiders included] on this or any other internet forum.

In the real world, when you state something as fact with no physical proof to back it up, it's called fabrication. Disney, or any other business for that matter, does not and would not deliberately undermine profit-making operations because "they wanted them gone". If a business wants to divest themselves of something profitable for "other" reasons, they simply do so. Why would any organisation deliberately lose money? Just to give themselves an "excuse" that they can feed to fanbois to shut something down? That's insanity. If they want rid of something, they just close it and announce that it no longer fits their corporate vision.

Were you perchance sitting in the Disney boardroom when decisions were made to lose money?

I did... I called it a conspiracy theory.

I have not presented information here as fact. I have couched my statements in terms of what I understand or believe to be the case, but never as fact. I have presented logic to provide a foundation for what I understand or believe to be the case.

I've also never indicated that there is or is not a plan to rectify any of this. I have however presented a reasoned explanation of how I think Disney may have gotten to where they are without stooping to unfounded accusations of bureaucratic malfeasance. :animwink:

All true. But consider that the Walt Disney Company closed businesses that they opperated in order to save operating costs and collect rent from 3rd parties. They decided to give up control over quality for a steady flow of cash. This is not the way disney operated for most of its history. Disney was about greater control so they could insure quality.

And then the economy tanked so they did not get their steady flow of cash. So, they failed miserably in every way. They get an F for maintaining quality and an F for making money.

1) I'd say that a company which is infamous for making stars out of mediocre talent through marketing and merchandise intentionally killed Pleasure Island by not giving it a lick of advertising. Have you seen the crap they push on the WDW Buses? Most guests didn't even know PI was there. Word of mouth can only get you so far. Same thing with the Boardwalk.

2) They ended the nightly New Years Eve celebration and removed the gates and failed to update outdated clubs.

3) The Adventurers Club was still doing great but actually cost money to run because of *gasp* entertainment (quite a concept at WDW). Imagine if they had a restaurant and shop to go along with it!

4) Overpriced cover charges and drinks. Reduce the cost of both and people will spend more.

5) No direct transportation from resorts to PI. It took me about 40 minutes to use Disney transportation to get to PI. Same problem for the Boardwalk. Annoying and frustrating.

The point is, was it really a steady cash flow and how do we know the third party vendors would not be of quality?

Look, I wish the clubs were still open as much as anyone. I liked Pleasure Island, but it is dead in the original format. It's over, kaput. We have no idea what they have planned (if they did/do have a plan), or where they will go with it (if they do anything at all). All we can do is sit back, shut up, and watch the space to see what happens. :shrug:

Anyway, done with this. I'm so over PI threads. :dazzle:
