What will Disney announce for Disney World at the 2022 D23 expo?

I think it’s worth mentioning that LL+ has changed the game re new attractions and the math behind them. There’s a whole new incentive to build more and there’s no reason you can’t charge for LL+ for multiple attractions at the same park. DLRP is exclusively LL+ (Premier Access).
It certainly lets the accountants and data analysts know how much a ride is worth to guests and to gauge if they want more of the same.... for a price.

The difference for Disney is that building a new Disney resort would be exorbitantly expensive. Acquiring the land alone would cost a huge sum (I doubt they'd be able to hide it the way they hid the Florida land purchases), and then actual construction would be astronomical. They can't even build 3 rides for less than a billion dollars now.

Probably true but I guarantee in a decade they’re going to wish they had spent the money securing land at the very least.

We are the biggest Disney fans around but with Universal constantly expanding and Disney doing nothing we’re gradually spending more and more time at Uni. If AK is truly the last park they plan to ever build domestically they are going to be horribly stagnant in a couple decades.

Which I guess plays into their strategy of wanting new (high spending) visitors rather than repeat visitors.

25% off at some of the best places to stay in WDW. Oct 25th onward.

There is more availability in the next 4 months then I have seen at Disney way before COVID.

I would say that the demand is defiantly softening. Which I would guess means we will be seeing the return of the DDP soon.

Only for AP holders.... Usually at this time of year there are discounts for everyone. Go back to 2019, 2018, etc. Always discounts.

When things get bad, you end up seeing 35% or greater discounts.

Imagination isn’t gonna happen lmao. Every year it’s predicted and every year it doesn’t happen. I’ve decided that if I convince myself it won’t happen, it’ll finally happen.

I think we need to look at the facts.

Chapeks approach the moment he finally took over fully once Iger left was to scale back with a much more timid / safe approach. He is very much someone who focuses on the financials and economy. He scaled back a lot of the announced projects / plans for the 50th because of the Covid fear. Now there is all this talk about the recession which is going to have him in that same mindset of “keep costs low, we don’t know what is ahead”. Chapek is not that fearless leader who charges ahead, sets the tone and has confidence that his decisions and the product he offers will keep the ship moving forward regardless of economy instability. It’s just not who the guy is, we have plenty of evidence already.

You have numerous park anniversaries coming up, the 100 year celebration and Universal preparing their third theme park. There are more than enough reasons to justify some major green lighting of new attractions, new overlays to existing attractions, new shows, parades, etc.

Do I think it’s coming? I do not. I think this D23 is going to be very lackluster with Disney World announcements and that will truly set the tone of the next few years for Disney Parks fans. If universal building a third park down the road doesn’t get Chapek to green light some major projects, then the realization needs to set in for fans of what you can expect from him.

I’ve been on these boards for two decades now and this has always been THE place for new attraction leaks before they get announced. I haven’t seen anything at all major talked about on here which indicates two options. The first is that with all the Covid layoffs and retirements, the insiders on this board have lost their connections or their truly is just not much in the pipeline besides what we are already aware of.

Here’s my guess as to what to expect and I don’t think there will be much beyond this:

MK - new fireworks show and night parade / Tron opening date
Epcot - updates on the remaining projects to be completed / no new announcements
DHS - fantasmic enhancements and upgrades with an opening date
DAK - no mention of the park

I don’t think you can set the bar any lower than that. Let’s see what Chapek does.
I feel like @wdwmagic has already hinted there will be more goodness than that.

If this came to pass, especially the EPCOT, and AK part of this this would put Disney in a very dangerous spot going forward. I feel like something HAS to be announced pertaining to these two parks in particular. Don’t get me wrong HWS is not perfect, but itclear EPCOT, and AK need help (more in my opinion) though HWS definitely needs to build out it’s roster more. AK’s problem boils down to not having enough attractions. EPCOT has a similar problem, but also requires updates to existing attractions. MK doesn’t need any more additions for a while.

I hope they can meet this very low bar.
Honestly, I think DHS needs more updates than Epcot. Atleast Epcot has a bunch of show & you can explore all of the pavilions. DHS needs more things so that there isn’t so many long waits.

I agree dak needs more rides but it's still my fave fl park.

Animal Kingdom is the most beautiful park I’ve been too. I’ve really come to appreciate it a lot recently, if we can get some more rides it’ll become my favorite.

I know normally the bookings this time of year are soft. But I am seeing availability all the rest of this year and during the spring. That was not the case in 2019 or 19.

So a few weeks ago I was looking and there was practically nothing. I'm wondering if they added additional capacity for the end of the year and are going to be filling more hotel rooms.

I think you're misremembering 2019. I remember looking at fall trips in late summer and finding plenty of availability. In fact Disney offered steep discounts to everyone, some as high as 30%.back in 2019 (looked it up on Mousesavers).

Long and short of it is I don't think we can tell anything about the current situation.

Could be, but I know Disney does some strange things with this inventory. I searched 3 times today and got availability at all the rooms at port orleans two times. The other (middle of the two) showed only the themed rooms available.

But either way I believe the DDP will be coming back soon.

But they didn't limit capacity back then...

They also claim attendance is great and amazing and perfect and right where they want it.

How do we know they’re actually capping capacity and not artificially “capping” certain parks at times just to push the load and/or fit their staffing if short?

They’ve said they’re capping. Which I’d say too if my attendance was down or there was a way I could say “capping” when really it’s just spreading.

They have always capped attendance, they just weren’t as aggressive or up front about it. Now they’re capping it to fit their needs so they can direct people elsewhere. Genie and Genie+ are similar in being about shifting guest movement to where Disney wants it.

Disney’s overall approach of wanting guests to be the right amount of crowded and miserable has not changed. They’ve just implemented means to make it easier for them.
