ever hear the question-what were u doing when kennedy was shot?-my question is how and when did u here of the news of the twin towers episode?
i was sleeping-late night was called by my mother screaming about a plane hitting the twin towers- at first i rolled over and ignored her thinking of a little 2 seater private plane-so i rolled over turned on tv and my heart stopped-the one tower was totally downed-i thought i was in a bad dream!of course the hoards of calls came in being from NY and having most of my family there. then when the second tower fell i could not believe my eyes-then the pentigon was hit then the last one in rural PA.
my wife is from the midwest and we were plannign trip to new york-flying into newerk intl airport in NJ(if u have never been its right across river from lower manhatten)-i told my wife when we land the first thing she will see is the twin towers across the river
im sad to think she will not see this for a long time-until they build them

i was also sleeping i did wake up for a second and looked at the tv but i figured it was a movie...i woke up about an hour later and looked at the tv and noticed it was basically the same thing i saw when i glanced the first time at that point i knew something was up so at that point i stayed up and had my eyes glued to the television for the next 2 days

I was in New York City... Luckily I work in Times Square so I was not in the downtown area. HOWEVER, I do work at Morgan Stanley and as many may have heard they took up a good percentage of building 2. Most of our fellow employees (3,700) did get out, however, approx. 50 did not. Not to mention about 5 of my friends/acquintances did not make it either. Very sad. And to actually witness, in person from a distance on the 59th street bridge) both towers standing...smoking, then one tower standing....then NO towers standing. As a native New Yorker and "skyline lover", it was and still is utterly heartbreaking...especially thinking about all those innocent lives lost. I've never cried so hard in my life. Today is my first day back at work and there is definitely a "somber/silent aura" still lurking both on my commute in to NYC and especially in my building today and I'm sure there will be for a long time.

For our family it was a day we were looking forward to. It is my oldest daughters birthday (big 13 no less!) and my husbands also.
I was watching the news and after the first plane hit all the news started cutting away to the pics and I went up to tell DH about it.
As we turned on the TV and were watching, the 2nd plane hit and all we kept saying was OH MY GOSH!!!!!!
My DH had to go up to our church and I kept calling him telling him what was happening on the TV.

DH and I had promised our daughter that we would pick her up and go to lunch and then do some shopping.

We did end up picking her up for lunch and alot of other parents were at the school!

We decided to go to the mall (which is just across from the resturant) and it was closing as we were there.

Needless to say she was very disappointed. Not that she is selfish, she is a very loving and wonderful girl but kids just don't understand the gravity of such things.

Our oldest DS said they watched it on TV in the high school all day. He said he had never seen teachers so upset!

So, I know what you mean, there are defining moments that you just always remember where you were.

Like the Challenger exploding too. I was getting my oldest son ready to go out (he was a baby then!) and I watched on TV as it went up like millions of other people and that tragedy!

My heart goes out to all those families affected by this and I think in some way or another, ALL of us are affected.

We are still planning to go to WDW in Nov as planned, Lord willing and if all is ok.

Take care! God Bless us all!

I'm sorry to hear of your loss, Goofy. These are trying times indeed. My thought's are with you.

Luckly I just received some good news about 5 minutes ago. My friend from New York just got in contact with me. He hadn't been heard from since last Monday night. I feel like a huge weight has been lifted off my chest. Unfortuately my Uncle-in-Law has still not been heard from. He is a Naval Advisor at the Pentagon. But we're still hoping for the best.

Thank you for your thoughts DisneyFreak...all support means alot at this time. I am so happy to hear that your friend from NY got in touch with you and that he/she is fine. That is GREAT news! Unfortunately, I am sorry to hear about your Uncle-in-Law...many prayers to you and your family.

Believe it or not, I am still scheduled to depart for Disney World this Wednesday, call me crazy, but we are going regardless. I am not stopping my life because of those cowards! I cannot think of a better place for me to go right now at this time. Hopefully this trip will bring my spirits up!

I was in my Sociology class at 11AM when I heard the news. I had no idea what was going on - it didn't seem real! It didn't make any sense!

Anyway Goofyfan, I hope you have a nice trip - can I stow away in your suitcase? :D Lol just kidding :)

Goofy....I lost my dad in '63 very quickly....I received a card from my 8th grade class with the following written in it. I have no idea who wrote this but I must acknowledge that I did not:

"I had to leave so quickly, I could not say good-bye,
I'm following my Master's plan and I cannot answer why.
Please be sure I am at peace and understand you cared,
I leave for you a smile and the memories we shared."

I hope you find some comfort in these words as I did 38 years ago. God bless ya!

Wow...those words are very touching and certainly bring a tear to my eye. I am sorry about the loss of your father. I am going to pass this on to family and friends who have been struck by this tragedy as well. Thank you very much for your thoughts and support.

I'm sorry Goofy for your familys loss and for the horrible time it must be in waiting.

I am new here and don't know everyone as well as others but please accept my sympathies.

Yes...the waiting is the hardest part. Obviously by now we all must face the fact that there may be no survivors left, but the closure is what everyone needs. Thank you very much...your thoughts and support mean so much.

I just got home from school when I found out, I had been celebrating all day as it was my best friends birthday. When I saw the TV on I thought what a realistic film my dad had on, they had even managed to cast the channel four news reporter. I was shocked to find it was real. My uncle was only a couple of flights away from the ones that crashed, he is safe but it must be terrible for those who did lose someone.

I dont know if you guys know but I live about 30 miles from NYC and they aren't building the Twin Towers over again, they are just going to build a monument, just wanted to clear that up.
