What was it like during AK's opening?

I lucked out and happened to be there opening day. Actually, I remember it being the day before the "official" opening. I remember there were problems with security because you could walk into the Rainforest Cafe and out into the park without showing your passes ... this actually happened to us and we eneded up having a free day on our passes. Obviously, and rightfully so, they've changed this now but before the back entrance looked like this:

The Tree of Life also looked a little different with the water being really close to it. I can't remember where I took this photo but you can see how undeveloped (?) it was:

Also, on the Safari, the vehicles used to go through water:

To some. I have never had a problem spending a full day there.

Same here. I keep saying it's fast becoming my favourite park. It's DHS that's the half day for us.

Nice pics! Thanks for sharing!

DAK has always been the half day for us, but whenever we leave I always have an urge to go back. It won't be my favorite, but it is tied with DHS for me. Its an amazing park, but like I said before, it is more relaxed and not your typical WDW park.

Whoa! When did they take out that flaming comet effect?!?! :veryconfu

I thought it was a really big solar flare.

I swear, Disney has gotten so cheap. Ah, for the days when setting off a dozen solar flares each hour was a reasonable expense for guest satisfaction. :(

I always wondered why that tree had no leaves. Now, it all makes sense.

 Sorry, the photo lab made a "processing error" ... I kind of like the look of it though!

Another question: In the Pre Film for Dinosaur, it shows Aladar. When it was CTX, what was used there instead?

It was a similar clip, just an iguanadon that wasn't aladar (less quality, etc). I always notice how it is different now than what it used to be.

Also, on the Safari, the vehicles used to go through water:

They still do. It looks really dramatic in that picture, but it's not (angle and the fact that flamingo island has way higher water than it does now). Trust me, every single truck mentions "OH LOOK WE'RE GOING IN THE WATER" every time we enter the reserve. It's only a couple inches at a time, though.
