Well, we have 2 more days until we fly down to the "World" and there is a chance of thunderstorms every day. What do you guys and gals like to do during a rain out? Our party is myself, 5 month pregnant wife and a 4yr old who doesn't walk. Thanks in advance for the ideas.

If you little one isn't walking but in a stroller I highly recommend getting the fitted stroller cover for your stroller. We tried the poncho system and my kids still got soaked. The next year had the stroller cover and thank goodness it pourd for hours in EPCOT. Our kids, gear and stroller were dry and we were offered 50.00 buck for it from a Dad with a very wet and cranky daughter:) DH and I have packed extra shirts for oursleves to change into after a hot sweaty day or very wet day. But I agree with Monty, embrance the rain and enjoy WDW. After 10 trips 8 trips with kids we have NEVER been rained out all day.
Have a great trip and hope your wife has a healthy baby, we just had our 4th two weeks ago. Never did WDW preggo but many times with babies, make sure you get Baby thier first ears!

We were in Disney during Tropical Storm Fay back in Aug 2008 and it rained all but 2 days of our trip, we're talking downpours too. We went to the parks with our ponchos on and had just as much fun as we do when it's not raining. A little tip for you for your son, if he will be riding in a stroller you can use your stroller as a wheelchair (you must get a sticker at guest relations for the stroller), we did this the past 2 years for my son who is now 7 and has just been walking independently for only about a year now. This was a godsend in the rain because we didn't have to leave the stroller in the stroller parking area while in attractions and the stroller was able to remain somewhat dry. You will probably need a letter from your pediatrician to get the sticker but it's most helpful, we always get a letter for a Guest Assistance Card from our dr because of our son's several delayments and I don't think we could make it through the parks without it.

My recommendation is when it starts raining, take in one of the longer shows, i.e. Hall of Presidents at Magic Kingdom, American Adventure at Epcot, Ellen's Universe of Energy, The Great Movie Ride, etc.

The only park that the rain is a bit of a pain in is Animal Kingdom.

Usually the rain will stop by the time you get out.

In addition, go to the dollar store before you leave an buy some cheap Ponchos (I would get 2-3 for each person, they are only a dollar and if they get damaged or lost, not that big of a deal and are substantially cheaper than what Disney sells, which are about the same quality). This will help you keep dry as well.

You can always hop in a store and browse while its raining. It happened to us last year at least twice. As we exited The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh it was pouring so we stayed put in the gift shop there until the rain passed. The other time we were on Main Street and it was raining so hard we had to take cover inside one of the stores there. We tried waiting it out. We stood there a good 30 minutes before a CM looked at our little ones faces and said, "the attractions ARE still open even if its raining". So we ponchoed the kids up and ourselves and went on . We we riding the Magic Carpets of Aladdin in the rain. We had such a great time even with the rain. An hour later it was hot and sunny and everyone and everything dried. Have fun!

We had some serious t-storms run through DHS last June. We stayed as long as possible near the entrance to Tatooine Traders, but that didn't work out. So, it was close to dinner time and we decided to try 50"s PT for the first time. They didn't have room for us right away, but the wait was only 25 minutes or so. The wife and I sat at the bar (go figure, I know :)), while the kids had a Sprite and watched the old TV clips. The dinner was great, and everyone had a good time drying off and enjoying the ambiance......

We've found that Epcot is one of the easier parks to be in during a rainy day, mostly because many of the wait lines are indoors. Also, a ton of people will head back to their resort or leave for the day so wait times aren't as long.

Rain does not stop anything. For us we just put on our poncho's and go walk around and go on the rides and see the shows or if it rains close to lunch or dinner then we take advantage of it and enjoy a nice meal at a place that we never would have stopped at or thought of, then we shop a bit and take in a few shows. Rain never stops us or ruins our day in WDW. Far as going to the movies is kind of lame. We saved all year to go to WDW and we are not going to the movies when there is so much to see and do. We can see Movies back home. The crowds do thin out a bit if it does rain for awhile and makes ride lines extremely short. My advise is prepare the family for rain and go and have a great time and don't forget to laugh and smile. You are in WDW the happiest place on earth.

Stroller rain covers are one of the best inventions ever. For little ones that cannot wear ponchos it keeps them dry and secure. Plus the ones I've had are big enough that it would also keep my diaper bag dry too. I think every time we go to restaurant I would cover stroller just in case.

The rest of us put on our ponchos and go.

Brilliant...and Canadian
In the Parks
No
RAINOUT? No, my friend.... that's an OPPORTUNITY :)

1) Everyone should carry a cheap plastic WalMart Poncho
2) When it starts to rain, a LOT of the Locals run away from the parks... often screaming.
3) ...which leads to VERY LOW crowds for those that are prepared.

Moral: always carry cheap, effective, light weight rain gear - then pray for a storm :)
Or just get wet and do the same!

My mother always told me: "You were born wet! No doubt you will get wet again. It isn't going to kill you." :lookaroun

When I was preparing for my first (in 15 years) trip to WDW, I printed off a whole list of thing from allears.net on "what to do on a rainy day." It was really great info on entertaining things to do in & out of the parks on a rainy day.

If I had to sum it all up for you in one sentence it would be this: "Go to Epcot." Mostly because of all the indoor areas/ rides.

Hi there! Have a great trip! In FL in the summer, you'll get your chance of thunderstorms. Usually they are just passing - sunny and humid, a down pour, then it's over and back to sunny and humid and you dry fast. Now my DH and I were at US/IOA over Memorial Day a few years back and there was an all out thunderstorm where it rained for hours. Look at the doplars on your computer or phone to see what kind of chance it is. If it is the first kind I mentioned - then just head to the parks and when you see the dark clouds roll in - go to a part of the park that has a lot of cover - like at MK (Micky's Philharmagic), at Disney - Animation, Epcot - Innovations. If it looks like it will be an all out rain fest for most of the day - we like to head to DTD. We go to the movies - shop, eat, etc. Or there is Disney Quest as well. All indoors and lots of cover. Hope this info helps!

We were also there during Tropical Storm Fay. We had planned to go to Epcot that day, but because the weather was so bad, we had a message on our room telephone that all the parks would be open at 8 am, in case they needed to close earlier in the day.

Unfortunately, I was ill, and spent the day in bed, but my dh and 2 dds put on their ponchos and headed off to the MK. When they were there, there was hardly anyone else there. They walked on everything - didn't queue at all. On IASW, they didn't just have a boat to themselves, there was no-one else on the ride! The rain even stopped for a while! They came back to the room at about 2 to see if was OK, and told me I'd missed the best day ever in the MK!

They were a little wet, but after a quick shower and change of clothes, they felt fine.

No such thing as a rain out in WDW!! Beside the fact that the storms don't last very long just about everything stays open except the outside rides/shows. Just put on a rain coat & keep on going!

We've been there through tropical storms, but always seem to leave a day or two before a hurricane hits so I guess we've been lucky.

Also - along with bringing disposable ponchos (or the WDW ones if you have them from previous years), in my bag, I have a little "kit". It includes a small folded up reusable bag for "wet ponchos" if you have the above mentioned WDW ones and after all $$$ you spent on them - you don't want to just toss them out. Also in the kit - those "sham-wow" things (not that brand but same concept). I cut them up into wash cloth sizes and they are amazing! I keep them in a zip lock folded up and if we get wet - we use them to get the water off our skin and hair - and they go back into the zip lock they go. This adds little weight to the bag I carry and are a life saver!
