So, what sports do you plan to watch during the 2004 Summer Games in Athens ?

I am really getting tired of all the typical prime time events, so I am glad NBC is going with other networks that they own for other 'non-traditional sports' coverage.

Hopefully, I can see at more than 15 seconds of table tennis, archery, shooting, and badminton. :D

I remember the 2000 Games in Sidney where MSNBC did some coverage of archery. The distance was in meters, but it was equal to about 75 yards: outside, in the wind, using only a recurved bow - shooting arrows into a 4 inch circle. Talk about accuracy!

We'll be watching rowing, if they show any. My husband went up to Atlanta to watch it when the Olympics were held there.

We'll also be watching swimming, as so many of the competitors for various countries attended school in this area (The Bolles School, which has both local and boarding students, has an extremely intensive swim program)

Aside from the Opening and Closing ceremonies which are a MUST (I have been on vacation and made sure to be in the room to watch these ceremonies  ) I will probably be watching as much of the swimming as I can, traditional gymnastics (I just don't get that one with the ribbons and balls...what IS that?) some track & field & as many of the heartwarming personal profiles as I can handle :animwink:! I actually get more 'into' the Winter games than the summer ones, but, hey, its the Olympics! :D

Can't wait for the opening ceremonies! :sohappy:

Swimming, Rowing, Track and Field, will be the primary viewing choices. It will be interesting to see the opening ceremony and the like, but my weekend will be spent watching the PGA Championship.

I usually watch whatever I can! But I don't usually miss diving. I like swimming, gymnastics, basketball, etc. Love the opening and closing. But I will watch and get into whatever event is on at the time I turn on the tube. :)

I agree with Wckd Queen thought..........I like the winter olympics more. :D

We will definitely watch Soccer: my daughter's first love and we went to Birmingham this past April to watch the Women's National Team destroy Brazil's Women. The game was awesome!
Gotta watch Swimming: my daughter's second sport.
And Gymnastics: my teenage obsession. I used to be pretty good.

I'm sure we will be watching many more events, but these are the must see events.

The ones we have a chance of getting a medal in ;)

Maybe: Judo, Any Boating Events, Women's Heptathlon, Rowing (Come on Matthew Pincent, see if you can match Sir Steve Redgraves record!), Marathon, Cycling, Shooting, Badminton... and maybe even Tim Henmann can win something in Tennis.

I am going to be watching the opening ceremony, and the swimming. I am not a swimmer myself, but a guy from my school who graduated last year will be swimming for his country (Lebanon) He is also supposedly going to be carrying the flag for his country. So that will be exciting to see someone I know perform. :sohappy: Oh yes.. I will also have to cheer on the basketball and softball team! WOOO!

I dunno becuase I like winter better. little bit of the main events plus the ceromonies. Swimming and Diving has to hurt (for me it would) or be a little embrassing.

Pretty sure there will be lots of coverage of gymnastics.

The ones that are hit and miss that I would like to see are: wrestling (REAL wrestling), judo, archery, and track cycling. Since Lance won the tour, I'm hoping for more coverage than four years ago.

Since they say they are going to cover "every" event, I'm really looking forward to seeing fencing. I used to fence and it's such a fun sport that I've been hoping they would air it for years, but they never have. This year, it looks like they may so that's the one I am most looking forward to. I'll watch pretty much any event, except possibly synchronized swimming(I'll never understand the appeal of that one), but since fencing has never been aired, that's the big one for me.

Ok, I am officially an Olympics Dork. Last night, I watched the Greek network broadcasting the ceremony they had to light the cauldron in front of the Parthanon. Thing is, this was broadcast in GREEK...and I don't quite speak Greek :lookaroun

I'll be watching Women's Soccer (I can't believe our men's team didn't make it.), Track and Field, Swimming, and if they show it, Volleyball.

I Know! So disappointing!! But the women are more fun to watch. They are so much more violent! Well, maybe not violent, but "into the game" more. They will do anything for a shot. They will play some great games. Gotta find an Olympic Schedule of who is airing what sport when.
