What show is going into the ABC theater?

I HATE THAT IT IS RELATED TO SUCH A ICONIC MOVIE AS GREASE. THIS RUBISH CANT HOLD A CANDLE TO GREASE, IT HAS ALL THE FLAVOR OF THAT OTHER WASTE GREASE 2, lol. It should never ever ever be compared to grease.

it will not be HSM.

When they announced something was going in here in May 08, they said it would be as good or better then any show that the Disney-MGM Studios has to offer now. It is a synergy project and it will remain the ABC THEATRE.

So, waht does this mean?

A) they think it is as good or better then Indiana Jones and Lights, Motor, Action.
B)the name of the theatre has ABC in it. Not DISNEY CHANNEL.
C) disney channel is still apart of the parent company disney. it is not a seperate thing owned by disney...it is disney. ABC is another company OWNED by disney, and thus its parent company is disney. So, since this is a synergy project, it has to be something currently popular on ABC.

so, after all this analysis. My guess is some kind of LOST attraction. And if i am right, i will be the happiest man in the world.

Actually Disney Has Done this. They rewrote parts, added I think 2 more songs. and turned it into a full length stage musicals that is available for schools and community theaters to do. My High school put it on, and it wasn't that bad, it went more in depth with the characters and made them more like real people and not just high school kids dancing and having problems.

My local school was another one of the few that was allowed to do High School Musical for a show...

it will not be HSM.

I never said that is where it was going, I just said that they were exploring the opportunities for a HSM stage show...

I would be in heaven if we got a Lost attraction! :D

I always thought the abc theater would be a good location for a classic dark ride, I mean I dont know the logistics of the building and what not but just seems like a good spot for one. A classic dark ride is something MGM does not have. Not that I want to see tons more Pixar added but the Monsters Inc darkride from California Adventure looked like a nice little ride after watching an online video of it.
Or how about even a Mulan dark ride since the movie was made at MGM. I know thats a far outside the box idea kind of but would just like to see something there worth while and not based on a tv show.

i wish disney tied in their original series(like suite life or hannah montana )more with wdw .Its really hard to find something you can watch with your kids that doesnt have ______ or drug use or whatever in it.Even the simplest tv comedies are raunchy.I dont mind that stuff, but relaxing and watching tv with my 9 yr old is enjoyable to me and yet hard to find shows that you can watch together.I enjoy them for the most part and i know my daughter would love to see some type of a section or whatever for these shows when we get there.HSM wasnt bad, more than one or two watches is enough,my daughter could watch it everyday.

Now that I do agree with, the disney channel shows are so popular and enjoyed very much by kids and adults alike, it would be great to see some type of disney channel attraction. They could work hsm into that as well but suitelife and hannah etc, could be fun.

EXCELLENT point.

It would not make any sense for the "ABC Theatre" not to deal with a TV show theme. I'm not understanding this theory that the whole TV show element has no place in MGM.

Twighlight Zone Tower of Tower, Playhouse Disney, ABC Commissary, Millionaire (when it was around). It's clearly already there.

The park is more of an "entertainment studios" vs. a movie only environment anymore.

I vote updated SST. I think a show based on a single series of any kind (DH is my favorite show, but I see it's popularity waining, but even then, it still averages a few million more viewers a week then LOST and does more business overseas) is a terrible idea. We've all seen how quickly the American public will turn on a TV show and how quickly they do. Take a look at (here's a reference for you) Veronica's Closet, a few years back, on NBC. It's first season, it ranked in the top 5 (I thought it was #3 but I can't remember), but it lasted only 2 more years. People are just crazy fickle. I still question ABC/Disney's sanity with their decision to take LOST which usually has a 24 episode season and take 2 seasons of 24 and make it 3 seasons of 16, considering the ratings decline (different reports have said the show was to run 3 years ((which it has done, though again, numbers down (((don't think I'm hating on LOST - DH is in some trouble, too but no one suggested a DH ride - lol))))) then 5 years was the maximum, for fear of dragging out a good thing).

I totally rambled there. Sorry. I adore TV and plan on writing it someday. Sorry about that. ANYWAY:

I think a HSM stage show is a great idea, though not for the ABC Theatre. I'd rather see an HSM stage show go somewhere less permanant feeling (I think the ABC Theatre should house a more permanant show, one that Disney could show for a long time). Building a Disney Channel ampitheatre would be an awesome idea - something where the kids/tweens can go to keep busy, giving parents a chance to relax. They could show different shows there - something HSM, something Hannah Montana, that kind of thing. Just my endless two cents.

In the US, maybe. Over here it`s as unknown as Ellen was 10 years ago. No the best choice for a resort dependent on overseas guests perhaps....

As I've heard it there are several European countries (I'm thinking Germany and Holland are among them, but don't quote me) have a huge fan base for HSM, enough for the Studios in Paris to add the Pep Rally as well, even though France, and apparently England, don't really go nuts for it. And let's not forget that only the Rolling Stones about 20-30 years ago sold more tickets to an arena event in Mexico than HSM. It's enormous. Have a look at all those kids that already know the moves to the dances and you'll see that while we may not get HSM or Playhouse Disney, there are a whole lotta people who do.

And for my 2 cents on the ABC theatre, sure I'd rather see something niftier in there, but it beats a closed theatre...and besides, since when is a stage show "permanent?" Cindybration? Splashtacular? Galaxy Search? Pocahontas? (the list goes on...)

I think that the ABC Theater needs something that is based on something ABC-related.

Now, i know that sounds far-fetched. But, i dont see how HSM would make any sense going into that theater. As much as it doesnt seem like it, Disney does believe in some kind of theming in their parks and to put a Disney Channel property in an ABC location makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.

And, i know for a fact that the abc theater is not changing names anytime soon.

I also disagree that basing a show/ride on a current series is a bad idea. I think its a great idea! Every single theme park in the history of the world has taken chances on fads or on "slipping" ideas. Most rides are based off of movies that are in theaters for less then a month. A TV show, and especially lost, in on the air for 5 years or more and has millions upon millions of viewers every week.

To say that disney cant develop a ride or show based on a series since a tv show comes and goes by so quickly is completely ridiculous. There is a permanent show in Animal Kingdom based off of "A Bugs Life" and that movie was a relatively small blockbuster at the box office.

If they put a LOST show in this year, they would have a permenant show for at least 3-4 years if not more. This show has the biggest cult following since Twin Peaks and the X-Files. You're telling me that you wouldnt have liked to see some kind of attraction based off the X-files if Fox owned a big theme park?

I do agree that Hannah Montana or HSM does deserve a place somewhere in the theme parks. MAYBE even in the Disney-MGM Studios. But, logically, it does not fit nor does it deserve a place in the ABC Theater... And we do not need some preview section for all the shows in ABC's current lineup. We already have journey...er...preview to narnia, which is a poor excuse of an attraction as it is.

Give us a really good show. Give us a reason to go into that theater and enjoy ourselves. Give us LOST.

My rant is done.

Walls went up around the ABC Theater?

I knew they were eventually putting something there but I didn't know walls were up ... I'm surprised we don't have pictures yet.

I suggested it!
Then we're friends now. :)
I really can't enough how the return of SST would make me so happy. Doing the Gilligan's Island (I'm pretty sure is was Gilligan) thing 100x as a child is one of my FONDEST memories of Disney. My Dad would do Cheers and it was always a blast. Bring it back. I wanna be on DH. I totally need to be the forgotten male Housewife who's exactly like Bree but a boy. :sohappy:

You assume it will always be called the ABC Theatre. In a park soon to lose half of its name along with Mickey Ave. after already converting New York St. to Streets of America, it's a pretty big assumption to think that a theatre that is not really used will keep it's previous function.
