The tilte should state nevere built not build.

There are a bunch of proposed WDW hotels and resorts that were never built. Here are a few of them.

Disney's Asian Resort : To be located where Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa was eventually built in Walt Disney World, Florida.

Disney's Persian Resort : To be located adjacent to the Seven Seas Lagoon in Walt Disney World, Florida.

Disney's Mediterranean Resort : A Greek themed resort to be located on the Seven Seas Lagoon in Walt Disney World, Florida.

Cypress Point Lodge : A rustic-themed resort that was to have resembled Yellowstone Lodge. To be located were Disney's Wilderness Lodge is located now.

Fort Wilderness Junction : A highly themed, moderately priced 600-room resort in the style of Disneyland Paris' Cheyenne Hotel complex.

My vote goes to the Mediterranean!

Well this has nothing to do with the resorts listed above, BUT I had read a few years ago that they were going to build a pet-friendly on-site hotel. Yes, they have a great kennel service but I would love for my pet to come 'home' with me at night. I had heard when the new company took over the kennel service (the name eludes me), that such a hotel was in thw works. Well haven't heard anything but would love to see it happen.

This would be great!

In a way, it's probably best that the Asian and Persian resorts were never built. Even when Disney (the man or the company) tried very hard to honor and respect other cultures, quite often a leeeeeetle bit of racism would sneak in. The Poly had been renovated to be more politically correct, and if memory serves, some people were bummed about the changes. I can't imagine the Asian or Persian resorts escaping a similar fate.

However, I will be nostalgic enough for a future that never was for a second to think about an America where huge chunks of the population that hates themselves them Ay-rabs, people who complain about mosques in their communities and Middle Easterners who dare wear traditional headgear or saris around town, would then have to go to the Magic Kingdom and see a Persian-style resort on the monorail loop, while guests of the distinctly American Wilderness Lodge have to be ferried to the resort on, well, ferries. Making them...boat people!

I remember going in 1975 when there was just the MK, and we had concept art for the Persian resort on the wall of our room at the Comtemp. I remember thinking how fabulous the idea was! Was that the next idea after the Comtemp and Poly (and the golf resort)? I've always had a fondness for that concept.

But Slappy makes some good points, and I'll bet some of those ideas contributed to these resorts never being built.

(btw, I hate to be picky (no, that's a lie, apparently I like to be picky - sorry) but besides correcting th typo and changing the d to a t, you also need a hyphen, so it should be "never-built")

Anyway, this thread makes me recall that trip and remembering that we paid like $60 something/night for a bay-view Contemp tower room (there were no garden buildings yet), and park tickets were like $6/day, and we made reservations (2 nights Contemp, 2 nights Poly) the day before we left to go and had no problems getting rooms. Those were the days! Of course, I only made about $6K/yr (plus free base housing) back then, and that was considered pretty good for a new college grad! Heck, the late 70's were like now, and it was considered pretty good if you could get work at all!

I remember reading about a blue sky proposal regarding a hotel shaped like Mickey's head.

That would be kinda cool. Especially with a monorail running in one ear and out the other!

THAT.

Yes, E.P.C.O.T., the original finally made into a real building. Sure, it wouldn't be a "City", or even a Governmental center as planned but having that facade built would be the ultimate tribute to Walt's ORIGINAL idea. EPCOT Center grew out of that and embodies it. :D

Ultimate symbolism would be having it VERY close to EPCOT.

Hmm... they're all beautiful! But they also each have drawbacks.

The Asian would have been cool, except it probably would have dated really fast. I think now, there's no way it couldn't come across as kinda kitschy.

As an admirer of Arabian architecture, the Persian resort would have easily been my favorite if it had been built - I would LOVE to see a Persian resort. Unfortunately, I think there are too many racist Americans that wouldn't...

A Mediterranean Resort would have been cool, except Michael Eisner interfered with the architectural style of the planned resort so that it would be a "postmodern abstraction" of Mediterranean architecture... and as an architecture student, I can say it's a good thing this one never came off the drawing board. Postmodernism was a fad that died in the 80s, and most architects today are glad it happened that way. But a more realistic representation of Mediterranean style would be awesome!

But the one I really, really wish had been built is the one not mentioned... the Venetian Resort. An Italian-inspired resort complete with St Mark's Square and canals with gondolas. Unfortunately, since a casino hotel with this exact description was built in Vegas, I doubt we'll ever see such a hotel at WDW.

Wow way to hate on America, I'm not sure how many places you have actually been in the world but there are just as many racists in other countries.
