We might have a vaccine as early as this fall, although next spring is more realistic. Then, it's a matter of ramping up production so that there's enough stock for herd immunity. I don't see us reaching that point for at least 18 months from now, and possibly even later if there's a hiccup somewhere in the vaccination pipeline. And as others noted, then it will probably take Disney several years afterwards to recover from the financial hit all of this mess has caused.

I can't imagine things going back to normalcy at Disney resorts anytime in the near future.

Too many variables to answer this question and the many like it that's been asked here. What is 'normal'? When will Covid-19 die down? How will consumers and travelers respond if it dies down or doesn't? How will they respond to restrictions WDW and other businesses put in place? The short, quick answer: I don't know. Nobody knows.

If we are talking Disney being back to full compacity, no masks, and all shows and attractions being open my "guess" is 6 months. I think the biggest and long term impact will be financially and the cutbacks Disney will make because of the lose of revenue

depends on what you consider as normal, i think new things will come out of this will be with us forever. I think some of the restrictions will start relaxing this spring unless it get worse nextyear.

This photo from the weekend from my own city proves it. Who do you think travels to Disney? And this is probably playing out all over the
country.

I think you have proved straight out why Disney will have a hard time going back to near normal. Rules being disobeyed at the publics whim. That picture shows some wearing mask, majority not, NO distancing from others. How do you expect things to go back to normal before the Pandemic when these people are acting like there is NO pandemic. You have to show caring for others and not thinking only of yourself.

Next time I go - in September. I am choosing to look at it as "how can I have fun under the rules that will be in place at the time", not "how on earth can I possibly have fun under all these rules?".

Yeah - I get Epcot's construction will be a distraction, but so was construction of 7DMT. Still had fun. Haven't spent more than an hour wearing a face covering, and not in any type of heat, so I am sure it will be a distraction, but I will deal with it. I am intrigued as to how it will work. Granted, my trip this year will be unique in that it is my first solo trip, and the combination of the recovery discount plus a bunch of Disney Visa dollars is making my OOP costs worth the risk. And yes I am concerned. I probably won't make a go/no-go decision until the very last minute.

But if I do go, I will be at Disney World. It will still be the same place I have visited since 1972, and every year since 1997. I will take proper precautions for me, and avoid people who choose not to do the same. And I will bet that this will be one of the most memorable trips I will ever take.
I love your attitude. Wish you could bottle it and sell it to all the nay sayers out there about Disney. I have been to Disney 28 times in my life and loved every minute of it cause I realized where I was and knew that I make or break my trip not the people or things around me. Keep being positive and life will reward you when you least expect it.

I think it is going to be a long time and probably more than 12 months but that is what i picked. Just look what is going on in the State where I live and where WDW is. I am about 30 minutes from WDW and over the past few weeks things have gone out of control with cases and deaths rising. The Governor is saying one thing that is because of more testing and other so called experts are saying it is not because of that. All I know is a lot of people in my State still have it and people are still dying from it so that isn't a good thing. I am just a 16 year old kid so I listen to what my parents advice me to do concerning this, but right now at least in my State and where WDW is things aren't going good.

Same here! Sept 2021! I'm hoping it will at least be "normalISH" by then. It's hard to guess but I'm hoping by next fall a vaccine or cure/treatment is found and we can enjoy WDW fireworks and all.

I wonder what the timeline is for this forum to get back to normal again? I almost miss the bickering between pixie dusters & doom and gloomers over every piece of minutia.

I agree. We should be debating "What would Walt think?"

I don't know. We will eventually conquer the virus. But the monetary impact could be felt for decades.

Oh yes, that's a given. Not to mention the people in the 3rd world who have starved to death over this shutdown and continue to. Ironically people will still pump their chests and say "See, we saved lives!". Yeah, ironically this is what they say.

"Novelty."

A pandemic isn't a fad. I don't think we'll see any normalcy until there's a vaccine or the numbers are nearly non existent. 12+ months.

The fear is what drives it. As long as at least a big enough percentage still has the whole fear thing going then no company is going to be the one that says stuff like masks are optional or something. Gatorland is the only theme park I have seen, and this includes Six Flags, that says face masks are optional. I have no idea why it is just them, but it says on their website they are not required for guests. We need to make it optional. But as long as the fear is here they won't. You think Disney doesn't want to abolish the masks? Sure they do. They can't make a promotional video with people's faces covered, that just won't fly. But they also don't want to rock the boat. It is up to the people to change this. Once more and more people realize that we haven't even hit regular flu levels with this thing the better it will be. No one wants to spend thousands on a vacation where they are reminded of how grim the real world is. This isn't why we go on vacation.

That's the thing though. This is the real world, reminded or not. I don't personally agree with most of your statement but Legoland is also not requiring masks, only temperature checks.

I like your attitude. I hope you are right. My goodness, is that the standard now? Am I actually happy that 6 months might be "back to normal?" Geesh.

At the end of the day, it will not just be the public stopping the fear, but it will also be the corporations that will eventually have to stand up and say "Okay, we really have to start making a profit on this". I was hoping something such as the riots would permanently bump this off of the news, because if it did then we wouldn't be worried about it.

Right, but in the real world we take risks everyday. Covid-19 and flu deaths combined still don't account for the amount of people who die in car crashes every year. We take that risk every day. You have a greater risk dying on the way to a theme park than from anything you would catch at a theme park. Once we start getting that mentality back in our heads the better off we will be. And restrictions will just slither away. If things are optional then you get the option to stay home or not. Just like any tax-paying adult should be treated like.

Is this New York?

If so, this is normal, and this should be applauded. Do you realize that three months ago the entire western world carried on like this? Do you also realize that every year of our life we have carried on like this despite strong flu seasons? If there was as much of a threat as we think there is then we'd have noticed by now with the rioters and protestors over the last few weeks. Let people make up their mind, quit with the restrictions. My young son knows it irritates me when he says "that's not social distancing" because I don't want us to psychologically be thinking this the rest of our lives. How does that lead to a quality life?

That's the thing, it will be a very different dynamic and we aren't paying top dollar for a dynamic that is just like the rest of the world. Good luck with the mask, last month our work made us wear it. Nothing makes you feel more unhealthy than wearing a mask for 40 hours a week. And I am not in the Florida heat either. I don't want to be forced to wear one on vacation. It just won't be the Disney we know.
