What is the big deal with the Dole Whip?

Sorry I just don't get how pineapple and ice cream go together!!!

Actually, the Dole Whip is non-dairy. Edit* Ooops just saw someone also posted that. ;)

I think that's a key to it for me...it's heavier than a sherbet or sorbet, yet still has this refreshing aspect to it that you just don't get in ice cream.

The Dole Whip is starting to pop up in more places these days, plus you can buy the mix online. I made some in my ice cream maker back in March. For a second there, I closed my eyes in my kitchen and it tasted like I was back at WDW.:)

Even though you can get them in other places, the eating experience tops all. I mean, you're in Adventureland and you see the iconic shop with the sign and teal windows and then, when you get it, you can sit in a bench area close to the Adventureland bridge and savor every bite while listening to the great Adventureland music in the background. I mean, I wouldn't want to eat a Dole Whip anywhere else. And oh yeah, the taste is really good!

I'm sorry, I fainted...what was the question? ;)

I love the Dole Whip Float myself. There is something about its sweet and cooling effects that are perfect for a day at the parks! (Actually, there is a Munchies near me that just brought it here!! They don't do the float but I can get the Dole Pineapple soft serve! Fainted again!)
Ummmm...you're making my point for me!;)

There's no way any container of packaged and frozen sherbe"r"t could have even remotely the same consistency as what comes out of a soft serve machine. But that's beside the point. How often do you think of eating sherbe"r"t when you're at home on the couch? You get it when it's hot and you're in Disney :)

Also, sherbe"r"t

sherbe"r"t

sherbet
Next time don't type so fast...I read slow

As another person who can't stand the smell or taste of pineapple, you can imagine how shocked I was to find myself falling in love with the Dole Whip. Tried one on our third trip (after reading about them on here all the time - plus, it just looked good for some reason) and it immediately became my favourite WDW treat. Had a few more that trip and a few the next trip and can't wait to get back down there to have me another one! :D

I'm not a pineapple fan at all, but you've just convinced me to try it on my next trip ;)

I don't get it!! Not bad, but don't understand what the big deal is.

I'm with you. Now I do like pineapple sherbet, but there's really NO difference between a dole whip and the packaged containers of pineapple sherbet you can get at Walmart or any other grocery store.....other than your paying more for it in WDW.

I was disappointed when I tried dole whips, maybe there was so much hype about them I expected too much. I didn't dislike it, but it was nothing special. I MUCH prefer the citrus swirl from Sunshine Terrace, now they really are special - for me, anyway. I guess it's all down to personal preferences.

We love it! The girls and I prefer the white/vanilla with pineapple juice float, the boys prefer it white/vanilla with rootbeer float. We've tried the pineapple and swirl and felt they were just too overpowering with the pineapple juice. Gosh, just wishing I could have one right now!!!
