What is going on with the air conditioning at WDW?

During our big family trip in August it was very noticeable that the air didn’t work in many places. Hollywood studios was the big offender with hot shops and rides. And we saw many people complaining because of it. Magic kingdom was the only place that was consistently cool across the board. I don’t understand why they can’t keep it cool everywhere.

While I know that climate change is just a rumor started in China... I think the fact that everything is warmer over all it is affecting how we feel about things and fail to recognize influences and physical facts that affect how we feel in heat. I can't speak for Florida, but, living just 600 miles from Orlando here in NC it is the hottest summer on record for continuous high temperatures. This was preceded by the past to years that also measured higher temperatures then the previous year. Couple that with what has been extremely high humidity and you are going to get the feeling of being hot. Those show buildings are massive and while granting that the equipment may be getting old and less efficient then when new, once the heat and humidity gets in through all those open entrances, especially SSE which is set up just like a chimney, it should be understandable why on certain days, with the highest humidity it would be hard to find a comfortable location. This is a problem that only seems to be severe in the summer (duh!) I have never found that true in February when the outside temperatures are slightly cooler during the day, but, a biggy that we seldom really think about is the numbers of human animals present. Everyone emitting 98.6 degrees of humid temperature will add considerably to the burden of cooling off an areas mechanically. Some things are just going to be uncomfortable.

I bet their Disney springs offices are nice and cold
And I'll bet they are a much smaller individual space, with no windows or doors open letting in outside heat and humidity. Listen, I don't like being uncomfortably warm and sticky, but, there are realities present that make a difference in how we react to even the same temperature.

If that was the case then every park would feel the same. That’s not the case. The fact is they don’t fix units that are broken. Individual park management try to get by keeping places warmer to cut down on cost. As I said earlier it was obvious at Hollywood studios they were not cooling the shops and rides properly. I’m in the parks all the time and it’s not consistent across the board.

It very well could be that they don't, but, I sincerely doubt that you know that for a fact. Every attraction is different, everyone has a different air flow. What I'm saying is that we don't really know that for sure and I really hate it when people speculate and become judge and jury. It really doesn't take a rocket scientist to understand that not keeping the guest comfortable eventually will drive them away. So if they are doing it to save money, they are absolute idiots and even though it has become quite obvious in this past year or so that it is possible for "leaders" to be idiots, doesn't mean that all those "others" cannot find a way to override it. If I were to guess it is a mix of bad judgement on their part and also on weird weather patterns as of late. Every park is a different age as well, so no, they are not likely to feel the same. Also unless you have the ability to be in each park simultaneously, you do not know if at that point in time they are reacting to the elements differently. AK externally always seems hotter and it feels that way because it has a restricted air flow because of all the heavy greenery in the park. Keeps moisture there and has limited breezes to make it feel cooler. Should they take out the trees and shrubbery so that it is more comfortable for "everybody"? Also, how one reacts to their environment is different from person to person. You could send 3 people into an attraction at the same time and one would say it's to cold, the other would say it's to hot and the third would say it's just right. It's the Goldilocks syndrome.

I think those decisions (just like the removal of the fountains everywhere) are made by people living in California with 70 degress and no humidity... they need to take their happy decision making selves to Florida and tour like us for a week...No special backstage anything. We'd be back to fountains and A/C in 10 seconds...
Have a lot of the water fountains been removed? Is this just in MK or all the parks? Usually they are outside of the restrooms.

Maybe the lack of AC in Hollywood Studios is purposely implemented to get all the future gondola riders accustomed to the non-AC trips they will make on those beautiful baking, sorry, flying machines?

Well, our experience last week was that the indoor venues were comfortable for the most part, seldom "COLD," and most welcome after walking about in the mid-90's daytime temperatures.

I’m in line at Columbia Harbour House and it is unbelievably hot in here. The AC was off on Monorail Lime today and it seems half the time I take the monorail, it’s off. Under the sea journey of the little mermaid was also really hot. In years past, it was so cold inside that I would be shivering. Are they really cutting costs with the AC now? This is Florida. How do they expect to get away with this? I’m sorry for being a complainer, but it gets hot in Florida. AC is a must.
The worst part is that some of the resorts have sensors in the rooms and if they don't detect movement they cut off the air or at least dial it way back. We had that happen to use several years ago and it took us awhile to realize what was happening because when we went to sleep sometime in the night the room would get noticeably warmer we would get up and the air would come on... when we asked a CM about it they explained the motion sensor. I don't know if all the rooms are like that yet but I suspect if they aren't they will be eventually unless a lot of people complained. I realize it might save them money but it makes it miserable in the rooms.

Now, if you find you are stuck in one of those rooms, buy a mylar ballon and tie it to something so it will move from the air from a vent it will then trick the motion sensor while you are out of the room or sleeping.

They might have done away with that. I stayed at Wilderness Lodge last October and Old Key West in April and the AC stayed on all the time.
