What is Ellen's Energy Adventure?

I think it's one of the best attractions at Epcot. People who don't like it generally have no attention span or probably care too much about things like their clothes or I-pods than learning about our planet and how it functions.

I missed it this past time that I went and it is one thing that I am really upset about.
I went up to the door and asked the CM how long the attraction was and he said 45 minutes. I was planning on getting some lunch soon so I did not want to go to the attraction just yet and planned to come back. Well I never came back to it.
I was very upset, so I will definitely be going on it next time I go.

I absolutely love this show, along with Ellen. Beakman was cooler than Bill Nye, but I'll take him.
I'd be sad to see it go.

It's a dinosaur of ride (pun intended) that will probably be next on the chopping block. Ride it now while you can. It will will soon be extinct just like WOL and WOM. It's unfortunate, because I do enjoy it, but I've never seen it full nor with a wait.

Well I'm sure it runs fairly full during the crowded time of the year. But it's also a big crowd-eater. It has a capacity of 576 at one time (I think it's 96 people per car, times 6 cars) with the theater turning over every 20 minutes. So at full capacity, there would be over 1700 people inside the attraction at once (two sets of vehicles plus a full pre-show theater). Compare that to Spaceship Earth, which at full capacity can be holding only about 544 people at a time (I want to say there's 136 cars times 4 people per car). Though SSE has a greater rider-per-hour throughput due to the shorter ride-time...

And because they allow Guests to continue entering through the first half of the pre-show, a line doesn't usually form. It's only the last couple minutes of the pre-show and then during the loading time that the entrance doors are closed and a line starts to form.

I believe that the 45-minute time includes the pre-show. If you've never been before, definitely try to see the entire pre-show. If you have the time, wait for the beginning of the pre-show instead of entering it after it has started.

First of all, the rest of the show makes more sense that way - if you don't see the pre-show, you've missed the premise of the whole thing, and miss out on some of the jokes. Second of all, the pre-show is pretty good!

Also, if you've never seen it before, try to sit in the left-hand set of ride vehicles when you enter, as far forward as possible. That way you will hear the entire radio broadcast from the dawn of time, the part of the show right after the dinosaur diarama.

Have fun when you go!

Its not a bad attraction, like everyone else pretty much stated its a good place for some down time.

Yes it does need a bit of an overhaul, nothing too drastic tho,and BRING BACK THE FLIP FLOP SCREENS FOR THE PRESHOW!! and add a few new dinos

This is my favorite ride to catch a nap on or escape from bad weather.
I have to admit that I fell asleep for a short time while riding this on my last trip in August. But I would go again. You'll probably not find it as bad (or good) as others have said. But worth doing.

Yes, it's definitely an updated movie with Ellen on an old attraction but after having not been on it for approx. 15 years, I was still so impressed with the technology and the sheer size of the theater and ride vehicles.

Of course, I'm a total geek so that kind of stuff amazes me.

I think Ellen is the biggest problem with that ride. She is not even close to being funny, and its even worse when she tries to be funny. This is on my never to do again, unless it gets a refub. So I guess you guys don't have to worry about one extra person in line....

One man's trash is another man's treasure, I guess. I'm not a big Ellen D. fan, but I think that she's great in the preshow and the ride. My favorite part is at the end of the preshow when she says something like "and now a little person is going to come out and tell us what to do", and then she mocks him behind his back as the CM gives the safety instructions before entering the room with the ride vehicles. Makes me laugh no matter how many times I see it!

It really saddens me that people used this ride to "take a nap" or "beat the heat". Don't you people know the history of EPCOT Center (yes, I am using the original name of the park) and the greatness of Universe of Energy?! This is one of the most innovative rides ever built. The is one of the last edutainment rides left in EPCOT Center. Universe of Energy is one of the reasons why EPCOT Center exists. All of the pavilions were at one time educational and had entertainment value. The original ride had a true work of art (the Radok flipping panels with the film in the pre-show area) and beautiful films that told us about energy. Unfortunately, people didn't want to learn anything about their world while on vacation. The Magic Kingdom has the magic of the Disney characters whereas EPCOT Center is supposed to have the magic of discovery and learning through science, technology, and culture. I find it interesting that some people don't know why EPCOT Center was created and what the original goal was. Universe of Energy wasn't created so you could take a nap. Take a look at the Universe of Energy tribute site at http://energy.planet7.org. Also, try to watch the original ride on YouTube or download it from somewhere. It is truly a ride of beauty and grandeur. I don't mean to sound too flustered. I just want more people to know about the original reason behind EPCOT Center and it's history.

I agree! Only Joan Rivers annoys me more than Ellen, but I love this attraction! It's pretty old; maybe Ellen was still funny when she did this.

Regarding my previous post: the original EPCOT Center UoE was far superior to the Ellen version, especially the rotating screens that didn't make it into the Jeopardy edition.

For the most part, I'm totally in agreement with you. I however, was not a fan of the original Universe of Energy. Yes, the two songs were great (I do wish they had worked at least one of them into the attraction somewhere) and the Radok screen was interesting, but the attraction itself was like a high school science class taught by Ben Stein. There wasn't a hint of humor or Disney to it, and consequently I think the current version is far superior to the original.
As for Ellen, I think she's good in just about anything she does, and she really delivers here. I've seen it probably 50 or more times (I've only been to Disney World 6 times though...thank goodness for the internet!), and it always still feels fresh and funny. Yes, the Jeopardy set is outdated; yes, Alex Trebek no longer has a mustache; but otherwise the rest still works beautifully.
Finally, sleep in Ellen's Energy Adventure? Never. It's something I truly look forward to. I don't go to Disney World to sleep. I go there to see everything...even the junk like Test Track. I hope Ellen's Energy Adventure stays around for at least another 10 years. There are so many other things needing help in EPCOT first (Imagination, Wonders of Life, new countries for World Showcase, and the education-less Nemo attraction, Soarin', and Test Track).

Definitely worth seeing. We saw it for the first time a couple of months ago and I thought it was one of the cooler rides at Epcot. The Dinosaurs were awesome, the kids loved that part. It was educational, just like it was supposed to be. Well worth the time spent.

Lights Out

We usually only ride it to take the 45 minute nap in nice A/C. Not to say that the 1st or 2nd time wasnt fun....But its not a thrill a minute, or visually stunning ride compared to everything else in the world at Epcot. We always plan it halfway through the day to recharge the old solar batteries on our toes! A couple scary scenes for kids where dino's are attacking talk show host who dont know how to properly adopt a pet...but other than that its pretty boring other than the on screen antics of Ellen.

And as far as getting educated goes....thats what the library is for! If it was fun it wouldnt be free!

While I agree everyone should respect the origins of this ride, I have to say the original version was INSANELY boring. Especially for kids. The new version is funny and engaging and has familiar faces to relate to, AND you also learn a lot at the same time. And the new music is fantastic. The old songs were pretty cheesy =p The new Energy ride is probably my favorite of the current EPCOT.

I laugh because this show was made before Ellen came out of the closet.

In the pre show she shows her hand a little. She says to some girl in the the audience that she like her hair and indicates a short (lezy cut) with her hand.:ROFLOL::ROFLOL:
