What is broken in Dinosaur?

I see frequent references here to Dinosaur's effects being in
a poor state---I rode it last year, and will be back soon. My point is,
if you don't know what's broken, you can't know that you missed it.
For this time back, I'd like to be more in the know.

Can someone let me know what doesn't happen in the ride, that I might
be missing, lol? What's the list?

There is a difference between broken and deactivated, but the list is something like:

Lasers in vortexes
Laser portals
Pyro in vortexes
Various mini meteors
The flying P bird :D
The jumping C's :D
The laser net
The laser event horizon
The end strobe blast

Hmmm...Maybe they should rename it...DINOSAUR: Countdown to Breakdown..

It's always been an overrated attraction...

Talk about failing to capitalize on potential. In my opinion, no dinosaur-themed attraction has yet realized the value in inherent in the material. At some level, I still appreciate the awe inspired by the simplicity of the Disneyland Railroad's portrayal of these magnificent beasts, dated though it may be. Decades after it was created, that that dinosaur attraction is still in my discussion as possibly the best theme park prehistoric recreation is absurd, and says a lot about how much remains to be done in this arena.

(For the record, I have visited Jurassic Park in Universal Orlando. I found the theming good--a real departure from the rest of that bare-metal-coaster land--but the riverboat attraction overproduced and underwhelming. Which, I guess, also summarizes my feelings about Countdown to Extinction.)

Around what time did all these things break? As I have never noticed a big difference each year when I ride Dinosaur.

None of that stuff is broken, just deactivated when CTX became Dinosaur. I figure it was because those effects were costly to run constantly...

I think it still is a great ride and a ton of fun as long as the AAs are working fine.

fav ak ride

It doesn't matter to me it's still my favorite ride in Animal Kingdom. As long as it is still loud and the aa's work i don't need that flying pt, or jumping c's. Even though it would be nice

If this helps here a video from the the first day of soft opening: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SIwvhaHLYes, It's kind of dark but that's the ride. I really only noticed a different audio.

Trust me, it is night and day difference between the original and how it currently runs. CTX is like Everest with the Yeti working. :brick:

Hmm, so then I've never actually seen the ride in its full glory, because I have never seen CTX.

Does anyone know why they have purposely shut down things? Too scary for kids or something?

There is a lot of "dark space" in that ride. I'm guessing that is where there are supposed to be effects. Ah, well.

I'm a dinosaur nut, and I prefer the Universe of Energy dinosaur scenes to this, because it's just so, well, dark. Not much going on in there. I do wish they'd turn on the effects. And the lights, lol.

Pyro! Wow . . . .

Some broke, some were decreed to expensive, and some were deactivated for `safety` reasons.

You should work in management.

As Marni said,, they were non-operational long before that change over.

From what I was told by a few technicians is that most of the effects are still there and can be fixed. It's just that more important things break down constantly which needs to be taken care of first. They just never get around to actually fixing those smaller effects. Shame. :(
