What is April like?

Now I know asking about Florida weather is like asking about the length of a piece of string but I'm going to do it anyway cos I'm getting all excited thinking about my holiday and planning what clothes etc I'll need to take.

So what can we expect weather and crowd wise, we're going on 21st April for 10 glorious (I hope!) days? :D

We've been at the end of April several times. It is usually very warm...not too hot, but pretty warm. Sometimes you can get a cooler day or two, or a cool night. We would wear shorts most of the time, and pants on a couple of the nights with a light jacket or sweatshirt. But we also have had late April trips with no cooler weather at all. I would plan on very warm weather, but take a pair of pants and a sweatshirt just in case you happen to get a cool night. As far as crowds, as long as Easter falls in March or at the start of April, crowd level is low. On the years that Easter falls later, you may still have some of the Easter crowds during that last week.

The majority of our trips have been in April (over the Easter fortnight) we've experienced hot glorious weather (mid 90's) and cloudy warm low 70's. The Florida weather really is a lottery but apart from the odd shower we've seen very little rain during our April trips

We usually go in the middle of July, so when we were there last April 25 I was pleasantly surprised. Instead of dripping sweat all day, the morning started off lovely. Fairly low humidity, but nice and warm. It did get hot during the day, but nothing like July. We comfortably rode Kali & Splash, drying off nicely and quickly. We stayed at MK 'til close and it was still very warm, shorts and a tank top.

Have a wonderful time. We just got back last week and for December we got superb weater.........days ranged from 82 to 87!!!

My wife and I went in mid April last year ('07). The weather was beautiful! The crowds were a bit thicker than we were expecting but we still never had to wait for anything more than 30 minutes...except for Soarin' of course. Lots of spring breakers from Wisconsin and Michigan...judging by the college gear they were wearing.

Enjoy, you'll have a great time.

I think april is a really good time to go, aslong as you miss the weeks around easter - this year visited 19th april for two weeks - never saw one bit of rain and the ride we were longest in ride for was probably  .......15-20 mins.

Might need a long sleeved top for first thing in a morning and last thing at night but during the day its hot hot hot (dont forget happymom we're from england :ROFLOL:) !!!!

Oh that is right! I did my student teaching in England in autumn of 1996 and I FROZE!! It felt so cold to me. I live in Texas, so we wear shorts in the autumn! The family I stayed with thought I was crazy for the amount of clothing I would put on everyday, and I still FROZE!

We were there this past April at the same time and it was warm every day and not a drop of rain. It was at least 80 degrees and the kids swam everday and some nights, we also spent 1 day at Typhoon Lagoon and it was great. Sunscreen was a must everday ( I didn't re-apply and my arms got burned, not severe but bad enough).

I went in April once. Only one storm one night, lasted for about an hour. Otherwise the weather was nice. Only thing I didn't like was that I didn't know that they had Grad nights then. They kick you out of the park at 7 PM for that.

This should be an excellent time to go.

We went that exact week last year and it was terrific, weather-wise and crowd-wise.

Nice and toasty, but not oppressive.

It was two weeks after Easter and several weeks before the Memorial Day crowds picked up, so it was VERY managable. We also somehow managed to avoid grad nights and the cheerleaders!!

Easter is at the end of March this year, but you should still be in great shape.

Have fun!

If you go in April and are staying at the Poly (or other MK resorts) I would find out when Grad night is. We went in April in 05 and stayed at the Poly (lagoon view) and the night before Grad night they tested the fireworks show at 2:00 in the morning. It woke me up and I couldn't go back to sleep. It seems like that did a run though of something else in the middle of the night that trip too, but i don't remember what it was for.

If I ever go in April again, I won't be going staying by MK.

When we went in April 2003, I only remember getting rained on twice. We were staying in Kissimmee and were going to go to the beach that day. We almost decided to scrap that plan, but then I thought I'd just go to the beach and hope that the rain stops or we drive out of it. The sun was shining bright by the time we got there and we had no problem. The other time was coming out of Sea World at 10 PM and it poured down rain.

I don't remember any rain on our 2004 April trip, although it may have rained briefly and I just don't remember.

When we went in April 2007, the only rain I remember getting was when we were standing in the building for the first part of the backlot tour. I remember seeing rain falling in the water. But that rain was very short as well.

So April has been about as perfect for us so far as we could hope for. Every day last year, we woke up to a Sunny morning and had beautiful weather all day, with the exception of the clouds that rolled in briefly for that rain I just mentioned.

If you look in the Birnbaum book, I think they actually list April as being the driest month of the year.

Of course, now that I said all that, I'll probably be rained out every single day of our upcoming April trip! :lookaroun

Be careful the first two weeks of April, it's around Easter and Spring Break so it's bound to be fairly moderate to heavy crowds at times. The last two weeks of April are decent, smaller crowd levels. Still moderate but I don't think as bad as earlier in the month. Most of May is actually a good time to go (up to a few days before Memorial Day) but showers are more likely in May (depends, Florida weather is just too unpredictable). I'd recommend going early to the parks, it's just the best way to do it to get anything done and possibly avoid late afternoon showers (which are the norm in spring/summer).
