Oh, geez. Ummmmmmmmm. Well, its hard to say I,ve been influenced by anyone. Well, no one inparticular, rather. I'm influenced by every piece of art I've ever seen whether I'd like to be or not. Subconsiously more than consiously. It all kind of sticks, some more than others in different people, and forms its own unique style.

BTW, Clockwork Orange is a SICK, SICK film! I may have great technical aspects, but as far as the plot goes, it sucks!! It almost made me physically sick.:hurl:

Ha ha, I'm not familiar with Clockwork Orange, but one year for Halloween my brother was the guy with the cane. He worked in a video store and only a handful of people knew who he was.

I'm influenced partly by French impressionism and partly by American Southwestern artists (DeGrazia, even though he's kind of "pop", and Gorman) and by the American Southwest in general. When I am doing characters-- my biggest influence is Disney, and within Disney, Fantasia has always been a source of inspiration for me. LOL for most of my life I wanted to be a Disney animator, until I realized, if I ever made it "big" anything I created on the job would belong to The Mouse! Am I selfish or what. So now I stick to painting them on walls. Maybe I'll do some children's books down the road. That could be fun.

Amy Tan's books have influenced my life in a lot of way~ when I needed strength, I learned a lot about myself through her characters. The Parrot's Lament by Eugene Linden cememted my beliefs about the animal world and took my wild teen activism into a more productive adult arena.

That's all that comes to mind right now...I did just crawl outta bed, y'know.

Interestingly, I am (was) more influenced by people face to face, although many writings/movies/arts have touched me.

Two of the biggest influences were parents of 2 different friends. "Ma Mulligan" was only around 30 when she was stricken with polio...a young mother with 5 sons between the ages of 3 months and 10. She remained, first in an iron lung, then later on an external chest compression respirator, for the next 26 years. Her husband (who died at age 50 of an acute MI in front of her eyes) was able to equip a bus so they could travel every year....at Christmas, I spent hours helping her to send out cards to all she had met in her travels.
She was able to raise 5 children, and run a household, from her hospital bed set up in the former dining room. (all the kitchen cupboards were numbered, for instance)

Because of her condition, she ALWAYS had time to listen to any teenagers who stopped by. (talking was difficult, so you never got a lecture!) She slept odd hours, so was often awake in the middle of the night, and had a very different outlook than most of the parents I knew. (She was English, with a typical British sense of humor, so that helped! ;))

She taught me the answer to the question, "How can you stand this (adversity)?" Her answer, "There is no choice....I can do it with grace and humor, or with crying and bitterness; those are my choices...whether or not to endure it at all is not."

Another friend's father taught me how to look (or try to) at all sides of an issue, and to realize how silly I (or anyone) can be about our opinions, including his own and other adults at the time. I appreciated the fact that he would at least listen to mine (unlike my own parents, and most other adults at the time) even if he didn't agree. He did force us to back them up with facts, however! ;)

My present "work" is not influenced by anyone/anything other than a need for money. My job is so uninspired! As for who I'm influenced by, generally speaking...

My grandmother...for her kindness. She is, hands-down, the most gentle, giving person on Earth.

Walt Disney...for his creativity, persistence, drive & dedication.

Ted Nugent...for his outspoken opinions & the fact that he has the guts to air them so admantly.

A lot of things in my life are hugely influenced by music of all kinds. Music is a lot more meaningful to me than most people understand...it can dictate or enhance my mood, give me a little "boost" when needed, provide ideas if I find myself running out of words, and so much more. I can't really say that there is any one artist or song that does it...just music in general.

I have had defining moments in my life as opposed to influences.
1. Seeing a 13 month old in a coffin. He drowned when he fell into one of those garden ponds folks have in their yards. My little one was 15 months old at the time. I realized that without my job; I still had a life. From that point on; my job could kiss my *ss; too bad if they didn't like it; they could no longer expect me to drop my family at the drop of a hat and come to their rescue.
2. My husband who believes in living life to it's fullest; that this life is no dress rehearsal; you only have THIS chance.
3. My friend Sue. For 18 years we worked is the same department and I never realized the angel she is. She (through example) showed me what true love is, what a true solid marriage is supposed to be like. We got to be so close when the store closed and have lived up to our vow to get in touch once a month since our job ended.
4. My friend Celeste. You would have to be around her to see where I'm coming from. She and I have been friends for only a few years yet we clicked from day one. I would be devastated if something should ever happen to our friendship.

Ho boy, what a topic! First of all, "Clockwork Orange" was a good 15 years ahead of its time. Stanley Kubrick could be an incredible visionary. Then he went off the deep end with "Eyes Wide Shut." Oh well. Let's see, influences...

HUMOR
Red Skelton (just aged myself again)
Warner Bros. Cartoons (the classics, not the junk after the late 50's)

ARTISTS
Not a serious student of art, so I really don't have any...do all the major Disney animators count?

MUSIC
Popular Classics
John Williams (composer)
Andrew Lloyd Weber

FILMS
Goldfinger
2001: A Space Odyssey
Ray Harryhausen films
Star Wars
Lawrence of Arabia
Ben-Hur (Ben-Hur? Yes, Ben-Hur!)
Patton
Saving Private Ryan

LIFE EVENTS
I'll try to be brief (HA). I've watched four people die in my lifetime. The first was a 28 year old woman in her home. I was first on the scene and watched the life go out of her eyes, as she looked at me. The second was a man in his 40's at a gas station who was having difficulty breathing. My partner and I were doing CPR on him four minutes later. The third was an eight year old girl who went into traffic on her bike. I was first on the scene. Enough said there. The fourth was my mother, in the hospital.

I've had people fight with me, try to hurt me, and try to shoot me. I've had spit, snot, vomit, urine, feces, bile, and blood on me (not counting my kids-lol). I've seen people do great things, but usually terrible things.

How does this influence me? Life is a dance. Some may think I dance too much, or that my dancing is strange or funny, or that I try too hard to get others to dance. That's okay, 'cause I'm still dancing. Because when the music stops, I don't want to go out the exit feeling that I sat in the corner too much.:)
