What headphones do you use?

Hello all,

I am having a little trouble. I am not ashamed to admit that I am addicted to my iPod while running. I can't run without my music of my Garmin.

My problem is that I am having a tough time finding a pair of headphones that can take the sweat I generate. My last pair, an expensive pair of "Sennheiser" headphones didn't cut it, about an hour into a run my left earphone would stop working. It's a real distraction, just when I'm in the groove the speaker cuts out and ruins my concentration. :brick:

So, I'm thinking of buying a pair of "waterproof" headphones, the kind swimmers use in the pool.

Have any of you guys had the same problem? If so what did you do to stop it. No music is NOT an option.

Im trying to learn how to run without and so I know what you mean about it isnt an option. I do miss thy music.

I was having problems with my standard ipod earbuds that came withe the shuffle. They were recalled due to humidity problems and moisture. Huh... go figure. Sweat and exercise.

I have obtained my new issued regular earbuds and they work great, errr, before 2 weeks ago when I stopped using them. No issues and a lot of sweat.

They are $30 out of pocket. I know that the waterproof ones would be a lot more. Might be worth a try.

Frank,

I'm totally understand your pain and I feel like I can't run without my iPod either. I have a pair of Bose In-Ear headphones which I absolutely love, but during long runs and heck even short runs in this heat, I have problems with them staying in my ear due to sweat. So kind of a similar problem, mainly because the piece that goes in my ear canal is a soft rubber and slides out.

I started looking around for headphones that wouldn't move during my run, aka sweatproof, and I came across the Nike Vapor headphones. After a couple of months using them these have been absolutely great and don't even move at all. The wrap around piece is comfortable and is adjustable so you can move it all around, I hardly even notice that they're on my ear sometimes. You can pick these up brand new on eBay for around $12.99. Now I will warn you the sound quality is OK and isn't as good as my bose speakers, which I'm sure you'll find will be the case with your other pair.

If you don't like the looks of these, I would definitely stay away from any other headphones that has a single rubber-type piece that wraps around your ear. I've tried some of these out and have had all kinds of problems with the audio part staying in my ear canal. I remember on one run I was trying to jam it in my ear and it still wouldn't stay in.

But give the Nike Vapors a shot and hopefully they work as well for you as they're working for me.

I also have the Bose in-ear buds that I use for casual listening only. And I, too, use Nike Vapors for running. The little foam-ish cover came off one (or one of my kids removed it..I can't prove it..Lol!) & I almost pitched 'em before the hubby suggested I try 'em without the covers. I slipped the other one off & gave it a go. That was like 6 months ago. They're still working just fine. :animwink:

My boss told me to try these. He uses them and raves about them. I couldnt use them since they didnt have the lanyard controls for the shuffle

(thanks apple for making your product so complicated that 90% of 3rd parties equipment isnt compatible; then again, I guess it is my fault for buying them  )

I use Sony headphones that wrap around the ears. I have a lot of trouble with earbuds falling out, so I tried these, and I'll never go back. They stretch just a bit around my ears, which prevents them from moving around.

I also had trouble with earbuds falling out, but I solved the problem by always wearing a headband that goes slightly over my ears and prevents them from falling out. I use the ones that came with my Nano, and although I do sweat like crazy and get my headband drenched, I've never had a problem with the buds stopping from working or falling out. Of course the headband look isn't for everyone, but I don't mind it, plus it keeps the sweat out of my eyes. :) Oh, I prefer to use the Nike wicking sweatbands to the old-fashioned tennis ones.

Well, the "H2O" headphones were a disaster. They kept falling out of my ears. So I returned them and bought a pair of Nike Vapors. I have a 6 miler planned for tonight, I'll let you know how they work out.

Sorry to hear that Frank. I really hope the Vapors work out for you, like I said they have worked absolutely great for me. Keep us updated! Good luck.

I have used my "Vapors" twice now and really like them. They have great sound and haven't clogged up with sweat yet. I've done a 6 and a 3 miler and so far so good. They are very light and comfortable, almost like not having them on at all.

I hope this is the end of my journey.

Thanks for all your help.

Glad the Vapors are working out so far. I still hate the "wired" feeling. I bought the Zen book Phonedave has mentioned a couple times. When it gets here AND I find time to read (<---time to read is key considering I'm knee deep in lesson plans for the boys' curriculum for our homeschool start-up) I'll be reporting in on that. The thought of using my mind to free myself from the wires is appealing to me for some reason. I know. Strange girl, I am. :hammer::D

I use a cheap pair of Maxwell's that I have bought at Walmart. I have replaced them twice so far. But overall they have been a really durable pair for $10.

When you get the chance, please report on the book, sounds interesting.
