What happens when you don't plan?

I know some of us plan to the extreem but it does pay to at least pay attention to the basics. We are staying at Boardwalk Concierge and as I was walking down the hall I overheard one of the concierge staff running down another guest saying "Sir! Sir! The computer aparantly did not pick up the double booking.... 4 adults and a child cannot stay in one room.....".

I'm curious to think how Disney will handle this. Give them another room because they did not catch it? That's a pretty nice comp if they can get away with it. Make them move to a resort that can accomodate 5 in a room? (What a demotion, from Boardwalk Concierge to POFQ full of Cheerleaders!). Make the party purchase another room? Yikes! Not a lot of good options. All could have been avoided had someone read the occupancy restrictions on the rooms.

The could move them to a 1 bedroom Villa, throw in a roll away bed and allow them access to the Concierge floor.

I thought all of the deluxes accomodated 5 people. I learned something new today.
I plan to the extreme. Planning makes me happy.

Having stayed there, I am pretty sure that the rooms at the Boardwalk could accomodate 5 people. They would have to pay the extra adult charges, and they wouldn't be very comfortable...but it could be done. The only deluxes that do not accomodate 5 are AKL and WL in their regular size (non-deluxe) rooms.

Bear in mind, I'm old and angry and bitter, but my first thought reading this was "the CM was being kind, these people are trying to 'sneak' an extra person into the room."

Clearly, since the CM saw all 5 family members, "sneak" isn't the best term. But I wouldn't be surprised if the person who did the booking only admitted to a party of 4. Whether this was a plan all along to game the system and get away with 5 people in a room designated to hold a maximum of 4 ("no, we're a party of 5, not 4, what do you mean Uncle Ned's not on the reservation, oh well, no harm done, here we are now, entertain us"), OR somewhere between booking and arriving they picked up an extra family member and they thought "Oh, well, what's one more person, really?" I don't know. But I'd bet a dollar that's what happened. Not a mistake on the part of Disney staff booking the room, a "sin" of omission on the part of whoever requested the room. Shy of finding any existing recordings of the phone call when the room was booked, we'll never know. But I'd be mighty ticked if I found out these people tried to game the system and get rewarded with 2 rooms or a suite or some sort of perk because of it.

If that was the case, the CM wouldn't have said "the computer didn't catch this." Obviously, all 5 names were in the system. Otherwise, he would be simply saying "Sir, you can't add a 5th person to the room." Not all guests are out to screw the system. Ive had ressies get messed up.

If it was a mistake where the customer honestly didn't do anything wrong but the system truly didn't catch it, they probably comp'ed them another room or moved them to an equal or better accom. for 5.

Exactly, if they were out to beat the system they wouldn't have given Disney 5 names for their reservation... and I suspect they would not have been caught if they were gaming the system because it would really be hard to determine who is staying in a room and who isn't unless you were going to go to the extreme of paying someone to watch everyone that went in and out of a room over a 24 hour period.

they could ahve added the name at egistration perhaps to get the room keey so they could do extra magic hour. I do belive that showing room keys at extra magic hour has changed some people trying to trick the system.

Personally I dont like to be crowded and 4 adults and a child in a room would be crowded (and only 1 bathroom)

Well in customer service you have to be very careful of what you say, because if you sound like you're accusing the customer of something they will freak out. So once he actually had them in front of the computer he might of pointed out that it looked like they'd only booked the room for 5 people and asked if they's accidentaly put the wrong number of people or something. Hard to know without actually being the CM.
