What Existing WDW Attractions Would You Remove?

I just KNOW I will take heat for this one but The Country Bear Jamboree. The animatronics are so dated and operate poorly. I am honestly torn on this since we do go in every trip and it is such classic Disney but I think it's time has passed and looking around during the show many of the kids that were the original target age of the attraction have the look of "can we go now?" on their faces.

As always, this is just my $0.02.

I can agree with that. I never go in there anyway, but remember it being bad years ago. It reminds me of the Simpsons episode where they went to a Chucky Cheese-type place and they made fun of the clunky, lame animatronics they had there.

I think even Disney made fun of it in A Goofy Movie when Goofy took his son Max to this run down hillbilly theme park, and all of the animatronics broke during this jamboree show. It was awesome...

I hate this early-mid 90s cynical Disney era.

Apart from destroying EPCOT Center as an 'embarrassment', there is this Goofy movie. There is the Lion King rubbishing the song from It's a Small World ("No! Not that song! Pleeaaasseeee..!!"). And the Tiki Room Under New Management ("Let's go for a nap in the Hall of Presidents!")

Disney slagging off their own product is not cool. It is 'oh, we know it is all a pathetic joke and yes we too are really too cool for it just like you'.
But the joke is on us then. We are the ones who like the Country Bears, the IASW song, the Presidents. Let the Simpsons slag it off if they must. But not Disney. I don't want to play along with 'I'm really too cool for this'. Disney sentimentalism doesn't mix well with irony and cynicism.

I think it's good that you care about these more antique attractions. If it weren't for people like you, Disney World would have become another generic theme park. Being sentimental for older attractions is great and helps make WDW a more unique place, but sometimes we need to look past what we think is fine, and see how it can be improved so that more people can enjoy it.

If something was so bad that Disney felt the need to make fun of it, as seen in this movie, then obviously there's a problem because that's how most people feel about it. Also, I don't think the message in the Goofy Movie was just about making fun of Country Bears, but rather, the message was about how children today don't like the things that their parents grew up liking. This theme was throughout the entire movie and not just this one part that I posted. It shows how old technology, old music, and old humor can turn away children. We can teach our children to not think like that, but it's inevitable that children will move on and take on new interests.

Today's youth is tomorrow's future, so if a majority of them are not interested in an attraction now, then there's no point in keeping it for them. The adults will still go on it for sentimental reasons, but that's not good enough. If enough people want Country Bears to stay, then we need to acknowledge what is wrong with it, make the corrections, and it needs to be updated with new technology to attract the youths of today.

Get rid of? Philosophically opposed to the idea. But there are some I could do without. Stitch's Great Escape is the worst attraction that has been at that venue (all the way back to Mission to the Moon). Not a fan of Sounds Dangerous. Not a fan of the Backlot Tour. NOt a fan of Aladdin's Magic Carpets or Triceratops Spin. (Heck, I frankly don't like Dumbo, but I do recognize it's signifcance.)

There are so many, but I think it's more so just a refurb list for most than a totally scrap the ride for me. Stitch, is number 1. DHS just needs a MAJOR update, and I don't know I love the Speedway but like everyone has said it just doesn't fit in with where it is. Epcot, is far from perfect but seeing that I don't really spend much time in Future World I really spend all my time in World Showcase I can't really give a good judgement on that. Except, that I feel like they should turn The Seas back, because I noticed with Disney is that when a movie hits it big they go a little crazy with it and tend to change things they see fit... but I don't know I think that like in a few years no one is really going to care that much about Nemo anymore? Disney has some major updates and refurbs to do though

Ok, here's my list or attractions that bore me to death, are a waste of space and I would never miss them (probably wouldn't even notice they were gone).

Magic Kingdom:
Tomorrowland Speedway
Tiki Room
Astro Orbiter and Aladdin Carpet (because one Dumbo is enough)

Epcot:
Turtle Talk
American Adventure
Circle of Life

Hollywood Studios:
TSMM
Disney Jr - on stage
American Idol
Honey I Shrunk set

Animal Kingdom:
Primevil Whirl
Triceratop Spin

Keep in mind I did actually keep attractions that I don't go on but would still like to see them stay as is or with a refurb. these are just the worst of the worst in my opinion.

The first attraction I would replace would be the Speedway -- and with it re-theme that whole section of Tomorrowland/Fantasyland to make it flow a little better. In place of the speedway you could put in an Alice in Wonderland dark ride AND an indoor Tron "racer" ride -- make the track for the racers two stories to take up less track space. Re-theme Cosmic Rays to fit in with Fantasy land to make the transition from the Hub to Fantasy land an actual transition and then create a better transition from Fantasyland to Tomorrowland. I was discussing this on another board before, and someone drew up a fantastic illustration -- not only what to do with the large amount of land where the speedway sits, but also ideas for several areas in Tomorrowland.

Stitch
Speedway
Dinorama or whatever it's called
American Idol
Backlot
Universe of Energy (actually an update)

Of course don't just get rid of them, replace them. Those are my top "chopping block" vote getters.

Just had a thought about Stitch. Would like to see it replaced with an attraction based on The Black Hole. Overlooked film with great theme park potential. Instead of Stitch, Maximilian escapes and creates havoc. You have the mad scientist, meteors, killer robots, and the Black Hole itself. Merchandising alone would be great with spaceships, robots, and a great remastered edition on Blue-Ray would be nice. Unless it already exists.

Heading for the great escape.
Indian Jones, LMA, that Idol crap, Jungle Cruise, The closed pavilions at Epcot, England, anything to do with Glee and finally the mince that is MILF.

They just need new steering wheel covers or something for the speedway...I remember this ride from the early 90's in DL and we all loved it and I think I remember a model T roadway too from back them that we also liked...I thought the Tiki Room one was kind of ..boring..but I was glad to sit thru it for the air condition. I didn't care for the buzz ride my shooter thing would not rack up hardly any points compared to what the guy in front was getting, and Stitches Great Escape I couldn't hardly wait to escape from.

id certainly get rid of the Dino Rama section. i just don't think carnival games fit into WDW.
it would also be lovely to see the imagination pavillion get some love. i've seen videos on how it used to look and what used to be in there and it would be awesome if they would re open the Rainbow Tunnel (it's still there in one piece according to a video i watched recently!) it just seems like a whole lot of un used space that could be put to good use. i also think they need something else in the Captain EO building (as much as i loved seeing it last time and i would ike it to be there for when we go next time so my parentals can see it, i think it's running out of time. it's dated and not many people like it). i'd also like to see them do something with Journey. we rode it once and thought what on earth was that waste of time? i don't think any attraction in disney should warrant those comments.
other than that i don't think i'd change anything apart from some updates and some general money spending. i'd certainly not take the muppets out. i love that attraction!

There are things on my 'must do' list because they are traditions (CoP, for one...) but I can see the need to update many of the rides....

But as far as getting rid of, here are my choices:

MK -

Stich - I don't think there is a ride as universally hated as this one. I went once and crossed it off my list forever.
Raceway - Finally went on this one two years ago - never had any interest - and after I went on it, thought it was even worse than I thought it could be. Totally lame ride that has zero excitement - when dead skunks move faster than your car, it's time to put it to rest.

Epcot -

Ellen's Universe of Energy - it's stale. Liked it a long time ago, now it's just time to retire this dinosaur.
Capt. Eo - Back in the vault.
Journey into Imagination - Bring back Dreamfinder!

And use that empty space that used to be the Odysee - or whatever.... put something in there not just for the Food and Wine or Flower and Garden.

AK -
The entire Dinoland needs to go back to being a travelling road show. Disney on the cheap and it looks and feels it.

HS -

Indiana Jones - Either create a new show or let it go already
Backlot Tour - After the crappy script had a tourbus in a 'live' shot, the best thing for this ride would have been to burn the entire set.
The Cityscapes - such wasted space. Nothing happens here. Years ago there was a Bette Midler short movie that was filmed there and you could tour the props, etc. I enjoyed that, but other than that what's the point of this space? So people from Utah can pretend they are in NYC? Wow, that's worth the admission price!
AI/Sounds Dangerous. Again, so much wasted space. Faux Idol judges and middling talent do not an attraction make.

I think you pretty much nailed it especially on Stitch and Indiana Jones..we kind of like dinoland..but we are kind of cheesy and I guess I avoid the speedway cuz I hate how my hands feel after holding the wheel around the track although this ride has alot of popularity with the kiddos..my grandkids love it...
