What does a 10 crowd level feel like??

I try with all my might to avoid any days approaching and being 10 level days.... but its getting harder and harder to avoid crowded times. I'd say you can still have a fabulous anniversary trip because you are avoiding ride lines which are the most trying. Have a lot of patience and realize everything will be slow going. Crowds shouldnt really impact your viewing decorations and holiday themed areas of the park, maybe be harder if you want to get any decent photos without interference. It will be difficult to get a good viewing spot for parades and shows, so youll have to camp out early if you want a prime spot. Youll have lots of waits for Disney transportation to get to and from anywhere. Walking the paths and sidewalks will be very slow going and youll get two feet then stop kind of progress. The stores will be jam packed, purchasing anything will take longer. Service in any food place will be twice as long as well as at snack carts. The later in the evening you can stay the better the crowd situation, but even on a holiday weekend youll have less opportunities. Just enjoy having the time with your spouse and celebrate the anniversary.

great counsel---thanks!
Because of all the wonderfall advice, I am tweaking my plans a bit-- making sure we have energy to last til Midnight. Very glad we booked the Wishes Dessert Party with Plaza Garden Viewing-- that is my highlight and we will have some breathing space.

Thanks everyone for your comments.

You will have a good time regardless of the crowds. I don't know about other people, but my experience has never been hindered just from it being busy. Just being at Disney is fun for me. I even have fun waiting in line most of the time thanks to Disney's awesome and immersive queues.

dropped in a moshpit
...where a good percentage of the people in the mosh pit are kids, kids in strollers and people on ECVs, all of which do not care one bit how many times they run over your feet, bash your ankles, knees or heels, or in any way injure or impede your progress through the park.

I've been to 4th of July, Christmas and New Years Eve celebrations at MK. The most packed was the NYE celebration before Fantasy Land Exp and yup sardines:hilarious: It was so bad my family wont go back. With the expansion its only bad in front of the Castle otherwise behind its normal.

I'm actually OK for special times like 4th of July and New Years Eve with it being packed. You know it going in (and it's kind of the point - a huge party) and I just accept it.

I think the far worse crowd is something which would register a 7 or 8. This is when it's busy enough that you can move around but you are constantly dodging people, scooters, strollers.. everything. To me, these days are the ones that really suck. On these days the crowd is kind of chaotic with where they are moving to.

On busier days (not packed in like sardines but really busy, the cast members tend to try to direct foot traffic, and I think the crowds kind of naturally fall into the pattern, so you have people walking on the right each way and that makes it way easier to get around.

I thought October was a good time to go to WDW-- so I was surprised to find that the crowd levels for next Sunday, Oct 9 are a 10 for the Magic Kingdom! It is Columbus Day week-end and the last nite for the MSEP. Crowd levels are a 9 for Animal Kingdom on Monday, Oct 10.
By Tuesday, Oct 11th, our anniversary day, the crowd levels go down to 5-6. ah breathing room!

My husband and I are going for our 30th ann --staying at the Poly -- and are not so interested in the rides but the atmosphere and dining-- the parades and shows --crazy us but we wish this vacation to be relaxing! -- so 3 fastpasses are plenty for us.

But I am wondering how crowded it will feel?? any tips to navigate the crowd? The Touring plans really are not relevant for us, because as I wrote, its not about the rides for us. We want to bask and savor the decorations, the sights, sounds and smells--notice all the little details and soak up the Magic. We booked the Wishes Dessert Party for Oct 9th so we will have a good spot to view the Fireworks--one of my highlights.

The MSEP performs at 9 and 11--with the MK closing at Midnight. Hoping the 11p show will be less crowded--what do you think??

Thanks for any tips, insights, advice!
Andrea
I'm here now, been here since Friday 9/30. MK has been crazy every day, much more crowded than the other parks. There's so much going on at once....45th Anniversary, end of the Electrical Parade this coming weekend, and the Halloween party. Then Colombus Day. Be prepared for the MK to be crazy. However, despite my Doom and Gloom news I hope you have s great trip!!!!!!!!

The WDW crowd levels online aren't as accurate as they used to be. This is mainly bc WDW is just getting more popular as the time goes on, so more people visit. Also a lot of people see those crowds calendars and go during those times, therefor it's not as slow anymore. When you go and how much you plan for me make the world of difference in how much you enjoy a trip. The amount of people who I know who are sour on WDW bc of the crowds bc of going during a crowded time and not planning is a lot. We purposely try and book during slower ones and plan in advance as much as possible.

I have now been to the Magic Kingdom on July 4, Christmas Day, and New Year's Eve. I think the 4th and Christmas probably represent a true 10, meaning it is difficult to navigate anywhere around the hub, but you can squeeze through. New Year's Eve on the other hand is on another scale, meaning once you get someplace, do not expect to go anywhere else, unless you're walking on the outskirts of the park. If you are going to settle in on Main St or the Hub after 7:00, do not expect to make it anywhere near the back for a bite to eat or a Fastpass.

So I've heard on several fronts that the week between Christmas and New Years is the most crowded week of the year. We're going the Friday before Thanksgiving through Thanksgiving weekend, but we'll be at Universal Thanksgiving Day and Black Friday where crowds aren't projected to be as bad. Still, a couple days earlier in the week are projected as 9 or 10. So, are the level 10 crowds during this week a little lighter than Christmas Day and New Years Eve?

Be patient and use the FP system. Even getting lunch at a CS restaurant the lines will be queued up outside the restaurants. We have spent many Thanksgiving weeks @ WDW and just took each day in stride. Get to the park at least 1/2 hour before opening and we would schedule a 4:00 - 5:00 TS reservation in one of the resorts to break up the day and get a break. Finish the day in one of the parks and hang out for a while after closing to avoid the bus/monorail/boat rush.

wall to wall people ... the 11pm parade will definitely be less crowded. Personally, I would be no where near main street for that 9pm parade LOL. Are you staying on property? If so take advantage of an afternoon break.... Hubby and I like to go to the parks around 9am-1pm and then break @ the hotel and go back at like 4 or 5pm to closing. That way you will miss the hottest part of the day and the largest crowds.

The only time I've ever experienced claustrophobia was during my visit to WDW in November when the Christmas projection show on the Castle ended and the crowds started exiting down Main Street. I was already exhausted, thinking longingly of the shower and bed in my Pop Century room, and dealing with the press of people almost made me frantic. It was awful. I'm hoping the hub expansion will alleviate a lot of that. Or at least some of that. That's the only negative thing, really, about the holiday parties at Magic Kingdom.

Late September now feels like the middle of July of before. It's frightening. And that's with half of the MK having been razed into parking lots or Red Square parade/fireworks viewing areas.

Omg yes it sounds like we had the same panic attack LOL. Same exact thing happened with me a few years ago the week they started to do the holiday thing.

Have to disagree with it being busy late September. Just got back from a one week trip, parks were DEAD. Every day. On our last day (sunday) me and wife went to EVERY park and rode "everything" and went to Typhoon Lagoon. In one day. Still had time to ride everything TWICE at MK .
Ak rode EE and Ks
Epcot rode frozen, TT, Mission space., Soarin x2,Sse x2 stopped and ate at a few f&w booths.
Hs rode Tot x2, RnR x2, and buzz x2
Typhoon Lagoon for one and a half hours to do the shark reef one last time, lazy river, slides, wave pool.
Magic Kingdom for the party. Rode everything, even stitch for one last time. at least twice. Some rides more.
Still had one hour left but nothing more to do.
So yeah, it wasn't busy. We did ALL of Disney world. In one day. its all documented on my Insta. @Johnguelff lol.

Note, had a rental car. This is crucial.
