What do you think of Coronado Springs?

Hi again!! I posted a few weeks ago about ideas for a family of 5, and everyone gave such great advice....so I thought I'd ask again. My son
may not be going with us in July (he was invited to an important summer camp), so now we have even more options!!
Right now we have the Polynesian booked, but as passholders, it would be $1000!! less if we stayed at a moderate resort. We've stayed at POFQ, POR, CAR, WL, ASM, and PC. Never Coronado Springs!! I've heard several different reviews and thought I should ask the experts!!
My friend told me that CS is a convention hotel, so during the day the pool isn't as crowded as other resorts. Has anyone found this to be true?
Also, with it being a conventional hotel, does it still have a fun and family atmosphere?
Does anyone have a preference between the Casitas, Cabanans, or Ranchos? The pool looks like a lot of fun!!
My dream is to stay at the Polynesian...but the savings are pulling at my purse strings!!
Thanks for anyone's advice and experiences!!

Coronado is my favorite moderate- it feels like a deluxe to me, because of the intricate theming.

However, if you don't have a car, make sure you request to be in the Casitas building, especially if you plan to regularly use any of the services in the main building. The place is massive.

The convention people never really bothered me. They weren't interested in me, and I wasn't interested in them. The perk is that if you're staying in a building close to the convention center, you can often get free wi-fi.

My Favorite Resort at WDW!

I LOVE Coronado Springs, and you will too! Although it's relatively far from Magic Kingdom, it's about a 5-minute bus ride to all three of the other parks. And the bus service there is the best I've seen. As for the conventioners, I actually like seeing people at work while I'm on vacation, but that's just me. The "Quiet Pools" REALLY are quiet, since the percentage of kids staying here is lower than other resorts. I recommend Casita Building 4, which is right by Bus Stop number 2, always the first stop at the resort. It's also right next to the quiet pool and laundry, and a 4-minute walk to the lobby and food court. TRY IT!!!

OK it is an interesting question. I know what you are saying as I have made it a point to try to stay at EVERY Disney resort (for fairly obvious reasons) on the property. I have stayed at both Coronado and Polynesian and can confidently say, you cant compare the two as they are in different resort categories as well as physical locations. I will tell you I think Coronado Springs is a great Moderate choice and certainly far less money than the Polynesian. Many of the posters on this thread have touched on what I love about this resort and I am staying there myself at the end of this month so as you can see this place would definitely get a thumbs up from me. The Polynesian on the other hand is a Deluxe resort, with some of the largest rooms on property. Here is a link to someone who has a great love for the Polynesian: http://www.tikimanpages.com/tiki/
The big determining factor here is going to be price, I think. The cost difference is substantial. If you can afford the Polynesian and it is REALLY Something you want to do, I would say go for it. If on the other hand you want a great experience and dont want to pay the prices of a Deluxe resort, but want a more upscale feeling, Coronado Springs is a great bet!!! Marie

Almost there

Alright...everyone has almost convinced me!! It sounds like CS is fantastic..even though I'm completely procrastinating about changing my reservations!! The only downside that has been mentioned more then once is the size of the resort, but we will have our car, so that's not an issue.

My very last question is about the pool. Knowing it will be crowded and steamy in July, we are planning on recon style park trips...in at every EMH, out by 11:00.....pool and naps in the afternoon.....and every late night at the parks. More then once the Poly has been noted for the pool being overcrowded-barely room to swim. Has anyone noticed the pool being too busy? The CS pool looks huge and spacious, and since 10MAGIC :animwink: noted that there are less children at this resort, I'm thinking it will be a little more tranquil (can I use that word when I'm referring to Disney?).

Thanks again to everyone!! Since so many of you have stayed at multiple resorts, it's nice to hear some REAL advice-I'm all ears!!

There are four pools to choose from at CSR. The main pool is magnificent, but more crowded than the three "Quiet Pools". If you're looking for a chance to actually relax at a relatively tranquil pool, the quiet pools are ABSOLUTELY your best bet! I have literally been the only one in the pool a few times.
And if you're going in July, your planned schedule sounds perfect! Morning EMH, out before noon, nap and pool, back at night.

Let's say you were planning to go to CSR and didn't plan to use the Pepper Market all that much, is any area closer to the pool, but not necessarily close to the lobby area? Has anyone experienced bad bus transportaion?

We stayed here just after it opened. It was my first experience staying on property and I have only stayed offsite 1ce since then. From what I can remember we were in a room close to the last bus stop. We had a car so just drove to the parks and drove around to the front when we wanted to eat. DH & I enjoyed the theme, but not sure if our kids will. HOWEVER we know they will like the pool if we decide to stay here again.

The Pepper Market put us off a bit. Needing to tip at a food court kinda defeats the purpose of a food court to me. We are thinking about going back here in 10/2012.

Hey there, The Ranchos are the quietest area, not too far from the main pool and not really close to the main building at all, and the Cabanas are not a far walk to either the main pool area or the main building. So far the Cabanas has been the area I have enjoyed most. Marie

CSR, you will love it, been to all the the moderates, the CSR has extremely nice rooms, beautiful.. good luck, but for the $$$ , well, well worth it. The only thing is , poly right on the monarail runs into disney and epcot, which is a nice feature. but as i said for $$$ saved, you can't go wrong with the CSR choice.

Just got back from a weekend visit and stayed at CSR. I loved it. Poly has been my favorite hotel but I really loved this resort. We stayed in the casitas which is a preferred building. Beautiful. The resort is large but to me seemed no larger than any other moderate. Once the kids get older I would most definately save the money and stay there again. It's so convienent to 3 of the parks and we had no problems with transporation. I loved the pepper market and found the food to be better than other quick serve at resorts. Have a great time you'll love it!

I'll solve your dilemma, do them both! We do it all the time and it's great. Since you have AP you don't have to worry about tickets in packages overlapping. Disney will move the luggage for you or throw it in your car.

We did it two ways depending on how long we visited. We would have luggage A for the first resort and luggage B for the second resort. So when we switched resorts luggage A was dirty clothes to take home.

On longer trips the day we moved we'd come back to the second resort and do laundry and hang at the pool that afternoon.
