What do you think of Christmas in July Limited Time Magic?

So far I have yet to be wowed by the Limited Time Magic promotion this year and so far this I another opportunity that Disney dropped the ball. With Christmas in July, yeah that is cool to offer Christmas goodies and ornaments, but I think they could have added in their Christmas castle show too, or added in some Christmas music to the background music. Maybe even contracted Santa and the elves to make a special appearance from the North Pole. It seems like a lot of Limited Magic is limited time to buy stuff. I would like to see some more options that don't involve buying things, I know there have been a few. Any thoughts?

Disneyland, specifically California Adventure, is hosting two screenings of A Muppet Christmas Carol for their annual passholders to coincide with Christmas in July. That with the special treats is a nice combo, but the screenings aren't available for regular guests, so that kinda sucks.

So the entire idea of limited time magic was a LAZY approach by Disney. The Christmas in July idea was almost like "Hey we have run out of old costumes to run out there for pictures."What now?" A: "Ummm. how about Christmas in July?" Reply: "yea, great, whatever"

We love Disney and will be going down in August. But let's not think they are above criticism. This year was a missed opportunity to Celebrate the Dream of Magic or something...

"Christmas in July" is a fun idea, but poorly executed if they only offer extra merchandise. When you have to buy something it's not really Limited Time Magic for guests, but rather Limited Time Extra Profit for the park.

There is so much more they could have done with this theme. As I wrote in another thread I think they should set up a Christmas-themed photo op where guests can take a family photo for their Christmas card this year. They can even have the Photopass sent to your home as Christmas cards if they have to make money with it, which would be some free promotion when guests send these cards to family and friends.

While I wasn't a fan of Limited Time Magic from the get-go...just sounded like a lazy and cheap hodgepodge theme...this is one of the biggest wastes in it IMO. While I know there's no way to have the Dreamlights or Osborne Lights for 1 day in July...it's not Christmas in MK without this...

Honestly...I'd be ticked with their Limited Time Magic event that's nothing more than them pushing a bunch of merch.

Reminds me of these events that Disney holds in which you pay for the "opportunity to purchase exclusive merch". Needing a ticket to the park or an AP is one thing, but making it a separately ticketed event is just blah. People must keep paying though because they keep doing them. Not into the limited time magic being "limited time merch opportunity" without much else.

Limited Time Magic has kind of been a joke since it started off with renamed the Club 626 Dance Party as something new for New Years. No one is planning special trips around these things because they don't know when they are. I think only the cast members get excited when its something like Long Lost Friends Week, but that's already been done twice and we are only half way through the year.

They really should have done month long Limited Time Magic experiences that truely were unique. They should have been posted when the press release came out. Those that could plan a quick trip could, but it still was here for a limited engagment. I think having special food or merchandise are acceptable for a Limited TIme Magic event, but it shouldn't be the only thing. This week's and the special ears week were complete jokes that were only done in order to boost sales. None of the merchandise was even that special. I think you can still buy some of these items before and after the event.

I was looking forward to Long Lost Friends, but even then they havn't been that amazing. The only other one I am looking forward to is having the villians take over Hollywood Studios in October, but don't think it will be that great.

I posted this in a previous Limited Time Magic thread:
I think the limited time magic shouldn't just be week long, but a month long. The lineup would something unique at each park for the entire month for it to actually be enjoyed.

I don't have any detailed ideas, but some I thought of would be.
-October at Disney's Hollywood Studios at night Sunset Blvd transforms into Halloween 1939 with tons of themed characters and lots of lighting and project effects to simulate a storm coming with it all coming down to a simulated lightning strike at Tower of Terror.
-December at Epcot World Showplace transforms into a true Winter Wonderland complete with real falling snow, a real indoor ice rink, and a snow playground for kids with special holiday meet and greets.
-September at Epcot is Retrospective Days where specific showings in the Magic Eye (Imagination) theater reshow all the previous films shown at Epcot ranging from Magic Journeys to the Making of Me, etc. Old Epcot characters would make appearances and even a return of Surprise in the Skys might return.
-April at Disney's Animal Kingdom is an Earthly Celebration which would feature Earth Day exhibits, special character returns, food booths offering truly exotic food samples, and a party atmosphere throughout the streets.
-August at Magic Kingdom Tomorrowland comes alive for the Intergalatic Space Exposition which would brings a special show to the Tomorrowland Stage, lots of unique alien characters wondering around, and fun future that never was exhibits and activities.
-March at Disney's Hollywood Studios is Movie Mania with sets from famous films set up with Disney characters playing the role of famous stars. At night in addition to Fantasmic, guests can also view full showings of classic Disney films under the stars on a giant screen set up at the Lights Motors Action theater. On select days, famous movie stars will visit the Studios to limited engagement meet and greets. The Premire Theater will host question and answer sessions for guests wanting to learn more about the film business and special merchandise including an all access pass to the legendary "Disney Vault" of Disney movies will allow guests to purchase any Disney movie ever made.

I agree. Most of the limited is just another opportunity for disney to make $$$$. There has been nothing that has interested me yet this year.

The problem as I see it is they announced most of the big events in the initial press release. I would have thought that once the local parks mgmt had to fill in the whole calendar they would have come up with some creative special things-but they really didn't. The waste of the potential is what is disappointing. Any rumors on 2014s promotion yet? Cuz I'm pretty sure this will break their streak of repeats going back to yomd

The management had an impossible assignment. They were tasked to boost junk sales to help pay for the $3 billon My Magic Minus scam technology. Come on now, help them out by buying some Christmas junk. Otherwise we will have New Years in August, Cinco de Mayo on Cinco de Octobre and so on until we pay for the big mistake of MMM.

Glad to see people feel the same as me. I was interested in the Dapper Dans sing boy band week just because I love the Dapper Dans but I wasn't able to go them, so at least I got to watch that on the net.
